What fuel economy for a 2013 Norge?
« on: August 11, 2015, 08:15:35 AM »
Guys wondering what average fuel economy should I expect for a 2013 Norge on a (say) 250km day trip which included a fair number of twisties but mostly good clean country roads and travelling on average around the 80km mark?  My dash showed average fuel of 5.1litres/100kms.  Is that too lean?  Thanks ... Wife and I just completed a 1000 mile (1600km) 4 day trip in West Virginia on our 2013 Norge. Very little highway, lots of mountain roads, many twisties. Bike hit 6000 miles on the odo on our way home. We rode 2 up the whole time, and fully loaded side and tail cases on the way there and back. Bike averaged near 40mpg (5.88 liters per 100km) during the trip. I'm not a slow rider, and definitely pushed it through the twisties! Milage seems to be improving as the bike ages. I was averaging around 36 mpg (6.5 l/km) when it was newer.

Between 40 and 50+ mpg and as with all engines, depending oh how hard you run the engine. What seems hard to one person is relaxed to another so expect something within the range described.

That number is fine Rev. You can't rely on the dash fuel calculation anyway. It ain't that accurate IMO.

My 2011 Norge gives me 4.5 to 5.0 litres per 100 on a combo of hwy and hills according to the readout.  I regularly get somewhere between 390 to 430 kms per tank. Has 16k on clock now. I do run 98 octane here in Aust, bit dear but think it's best for the bike.  Ian

My reply to DDDD re gear box problems .. by the way, thanks for asking!  Not sure what to think about my 'clutch sticking' issues.  I took Peter's advice and pulled the clutch lever off to check the conical-shaped 'plunger' but when I tried to screw the plunger out its thread was/is fixed solid and I wasn't too keen on forcing it to turn.  I gently added some LPG heat to the thread but still fixed solid in place.  Went for a good ride on the Norge today and no problems with gears 'sticking', but that situation the other day when I geared down to first and stopped only to have the bike edging forward (as per a car automatic) was a bit puzzling.  I'm just riding and waiting to see if that happens again.  Norge still under warranty.  Thanks again for asking DDDD.   Rev

Rev, don't be gentle with the heat on that tiny grub screw. It's got some sort of thread locker on it that takes a fair bit of heat to loosen.

Yes, you didn't mention if you had loosened the grub screw that locates the plunger. The plunger won't move unless the grub screw is loose.

Ok then .. I'll have another go at that grub screw and apply a bit more heat.  From last look at the end of the thread there was a kind of hard 'plastic' or what appeared like an epoxy glue ... does that get melted in the process of the heating?  Was also concerned in that I noted a 'post' of a fellow Norge member who'd somehow damaged his clutch lever and plunger and couldn't get hold of a replacement 'plunger' ... have been concerned that I might damage mine as well!  Thanks men!  Rev
