NGC Oh O this isn't good.
« on: October 29, 2015, 08:02:44 PM »
got home from my commute about 2 hours ago and just noticed this,

until now this has been my very reliable ride all summer and gets 100 miles per gallon!
In order to make it into November I'll ride the Uly..
In all fairness I thrash the thing at 50mph aand over, nearly pinned on the 1 ways in and out of downtown..

I've got a 195cc motor that will fit that

It has 12:1 compression, makes just north of 20 HP (vs. 9HP for the stock 125), but is a bastard to start.

P.S. I'll sell it it to you if you're interested.

hm, I'm not into kicking all morning to start but if it just takes a little starting fluid spray I may be interested..
it would really honk with that motor, pardon the goose pun..

From the photo, it could be something as simple as the float valve stuck open and leaked fuel.

Oh no!   Not another oil thread?

It is a ritual to start this beast.    I had one like it in my Madass before I sold it.  The Madass' stock CDI didn't retard the timing on startup.   You had to remember to put the kill switch on stop when bringing it around to just past TDC to kick it, or the damned thing will kick back, which can brake the engine case, kicker shaft, your ankle, or any of the above.

This engine came on a CT70 that I thought would be fun.     I had to replace the crank, because I messed that up trying to remove the flywheel to diagnose an ignition problem.   I haven't put it back in the bike yet, but, would be happy to just sell the motor, and put a stocker in it to sell it (the CT70).

If you want more speed with an electric start, you can get a 150cc with electric start and a bigger carb.

Upgrading these can be a real money pit.   It is probably best to just enjoy it as it is.   As for the oil leak, clean the engine off real well, and run it again.   You should be able to see where it is leaking from.   Hopefully, it isn't the gasket where the two crankcase halves meet.   If it is, it isn't the end of the world, as these motors can be torn down and reassembled in about 2 hours.

on preliminary inspection, it looks like the gasket where the two halves meet just like you say..

I'll clean and inspect this weekend.

Tighten the bolts maybe?

The correct torque procedure is to tighten JUST until it starts to get easier, then back off 1/4 turn.

At least that's how most people do it.

I've felt my share of "starts to get easier".  Fortunately, after several decades of cleaning up my messes, I'm more gentle with the wrench now.
