Breva 750 tank
« on: August 19, 2015, 02:16:09 PM »
Hi,

To remove my Breva 750 tank do I first need to remove any of the plastic bodywork parts attached to it?
I have seen the helpful posts regarding removing the fuel line but cannot see any reference to the tank bodywork.
Many thanks Colin

The grill work that faces the front is attached to the tank wings, seven screws I think, three each side heads facing towards the inside of the bike, one straight to the front, 4mm hex if memory serves, other than the rear bolt holding tank, hose connector and electrical connector I think that's all.  Pay attention to the lengths of the bolts as they are removed as one is longer I think.  Getting back on will be the real test of your skills, will, and strength if it's anything like the ones I've had off!!

No, to  get to the fuel disconnect (back underside of tank) you remove the rear mounting bolt, then lift the rear of the tank up and pull back some to get to the fuel coupling.  Also have to do this move somewhat to get to the valves on the left cylinder for adjustment.   While moving the tank be aware you are putting a strain on other tank connections like for gas over flow hoses.

Brian is correct about the front grill work.  The long bolt is the one in the center.  I believe the heat sink must be removed as well.

Be sure to put a rag between the steering head and the front of the tank to protect the paint as you lift the rear of the tank.  Have a block of wood handy to prop up the rear of the tank as you struggle with the fuel line...and struggle you will regardless of how many tips you've read on this site.  I think a shot of WD40 and working the collar back and forth repeatedly to free it up before attempting the removal helps, along with every cuss word in your vocabulary.

There are two vent lines under the tank.  The forward line is the drain for any rain water or gas spill under the fuel cap.  The aft line is the pressure/vacuum relief line to equalize pressure inside the tank.  If you have a US bike with a vapor recovery system, be careful not to confuse which line is which when you reinstall the tank.  If you've a european model or if a prior owner has ditched the US vapor recovery system, then it doesn't matter which hose goes where.

My tank is currently off my Breva, so if you need some suggestions or just want to complain about the fuel disconnect designer, send a note.

Here you go....

Breva 750 Tank Removal
-Remove the black plastic grill at the front using an Allen key. Remove the right-hand side panel, too.
-Undo the bolt, under the seat, holding the tank down.
-Lift the tank gently and place a block of wood under it while you a) disconnect the electrical line which hides behind the right-hand side panel, and b)disconnect the fuel line.
-Take care that the front of the tank does not hit the steering head or you'll chip the paint. Stuff a rag in there first
-The front of the tank is seated on a pair of round rubber blocks (situated on either side of the tank). You may have to give a bit of a heave to the rear to get the tank to move if it hasn't been removed for a while.
-Think about where you'll place the tank BEFORE you remove it. It is reasonably heavy and you shouldn't rest it on the front "wings", nor on the fuel tap.

A clear guide to disconnecting the fuel line is here with some pictures

You guys still have that cosmetic plastic crap on your 750 Brevas?  I removed it years ago.
