Where's my oil pressure sensor??
« on: September 01, 2015, 06:15:13 PM »
12ooS - looking for the location of the oil pressure sensor. Before I go tearing everything apart- can someone point me in the right direction? Is it on the inside of the RH cylinder? If so- I'm not quite sure how the new connector will work. In any case- thanks

It's immediately behind the diamond-shaped sensor on the left (looking forward) side, forward and above the base of the cylinder. It looks a bit like a small, stubby spark plug. While it can be reached by removing the exhaust header, it is more readily reached by removing the tank and airbox and coming from inside. The factory unit likely uses a 21mm wrench on your bike; a crowfoot or offset wrench is easier to use than a standard one.

Thanks- I see it now. While I'm there, I wanted to test it to make sure it's working. I know the key should be "on", bike off, and the sensor should read "open". However- how should my test leads run? Do I disconnect the lead to the sensor and read between the lead and the sensor?

I dove it, got to the connection, pulled it off (it almost fell off)- and saw EXACTLT what you are talking about. Holee crap- what shyte work!  Your rig with the reinforced connections are just what was needed. You clever little dickens, you. It's a good thing you aren't here or I give you a pinch on the cheek!

I turned on the bike- the SERVICE light magically turned off.

Once again- proof that one of the main reasons to ride one of these contraptions is the phenomenal people here to help!

Good to hear it worked for you. This electrical connection, along with the poor starter wiring, is one of the chronic and annoying things that mislead people into thinking these are problematic bikes. They aren't - they just have some small, specific weaknesses, easily solved if you know what to look for.
