intermittent power from key switch ~ 2013 V7s

It feels like a wire or connector at the key switch is loose or broken. The problem started the two days ago (during a rain storm) when the power went dead briefly while on the highway. First thought was I hit the kill switch. Nope. It did the same thing twice more on the way home so I put the experience down to water intruding somewhere. (Had an ignition wire earlier in the season attributed to heavy rain).
Last night I went to move the bike but the power would cut out if I moved the steering head a couple of degrees to the right.
Sounds like a short somewhere. Half-arsed traced the problem to the key switch. Then I had to do chores so left it with battery disconnected.
Is the key switch a common source of issue? Can it be disassembled to replace the lead wires if they are toast or will I need to order a whole new switch with harness? (Is it a sealed unit). I'll have time tomorrow to chase down the problem properly but figured a little field advice beforehand can't hurt.
Thanks all.

I haven't heard that the key switch is a common problem. You might want to look at the dashboard connection that's behind the headlight. Some people reported it comes loose and is an easy thing to check.

If it is the key switch, it may be similar to the older big block switches in that the bottom portion with the contacts and leads is available separately. It is a wear part ,you don't need a whole new switch if it is like the older ones. Consult your parts book.

Maybe there is water in the ignition switch? Hose it out with WD-40! DonG

I had the orange wire come unattached from the key switch on my V7C while on a trip. I stopped for a break and when I was ready to leave again the bike had no power. The solder connection had broken loose and was making intermittent contact. There are only two wires coming out of the switch on mine. I followed the wires down the frame tube and cut into the sheathing with a pocket knife and spliced the two wires together and I had power to get home. I took the switch apart and soldered the orange wire back to its proper location and all has been fine since. Good luck with yours.
