Norge footpeg position

I'm toying with trading in my 07 for a newer Norge. Putting aside the roller tappet issue for a moment (yes, I'll avoid the flat ones) I have one question about the seating position. My current Norge is a little cramped an a bit hard on the knees. Not so it's a deal breaker mind you. Just a bit tight. Are the newer ones any different. Yes, I know I should go to the dealer and test ride it. But it's a 500 mile round trip and any information and expectations I can take with me will make the decision easier. Has anyone moved from a 2v to a 4v and seen any changes in comfort?

Have you tried to install a lowered set of pegs?  Goldwing pegs will be about 1/2 inch lower, a bit wider and might give you a bit more room to make it comfortable.

I haven't done anything with the pegs, mostly because it's not really that bad. And there are other reasons I'm considering moving to the 8v. I just want to find out if the newer ones have changed seating/peg position before I take the trek to the dealer.

Aside from pegs, there's also the seat height which could alleviate a bit of room.  I don't know if the standard geometry gap (seat to peg) is larger on the newer ones vs. the older ones.  The newer ones have a more upright riding position (upwards and backwards handlebars), but perhaps someone else has the actual gap comparison.

Yes, that's what I was wondering about. Reviews often comment on the placement of the pegs but it's hard to know if these are comparisons or perceptions. I've searched the forum but I haven't run across someone who has ridden both.

Measured from the center of the seat using the embossed logo as a guide and using the seam aka crotch massager as the reference to actually measure from since it is about in line with the pegs, 23" to the tip of the peg.

Contrary to what is advertised, the factory gel seat is not lower, it measures the same but the profile is much different, it is flatter and toward the tank doesn't have the ball catcher.

Try removing the rubber pads from the top of the pegs. That will lower them about 3/4".

Yes, new model Norge. You said you have the older Norge to trade in, why not just measure it the way I did and compare?

I did and came up with 22.5 inches but that could be explained by just being a bit off at one end or the other. Hard to be exact. Thanks for the measurement though. Seems like someone must have had considerable experience on both. I may just run down for the day anyway. Pity the roads from here to there are so boringly straight. The price we pay for character.

Your seat might be compressed from.use, I replaced the stock seat with the gel so it is as new. That 1/2" wouldn't mean too much. Any other person without your exact physical attributes would have a different experience no doubt. Even the thickness of the soles of your riding books could make a 1/4" difference or more so I'd say they are pretty.much the same.

The suspension is a bit tighter that what you have.

In any case, the adjustments you can do quite easily to the Norge can make it your own. The bars are different so that will alter the fit and feel of the 8v vs the prior model. The engine though, is a jewel to use.

I test rode a 2007 Norge and I've now been riding my 2014 (bought new) for about a month.  I remember the 2007 for it's riding position (but mainly the handlebars), the heat coming off the engine, the footpeg position and the WOW.  The 8V has higher and further back handlebars which makes quite a difference.  I haven't felt uncomfortable yet.   Nor have I felt too much heat from the engine.  The footpegs I still find a bit far back - but not when I'm actually riding.  After an hour or so of not putting my foot down it feels like the ground is in an unusual place, if you know what I mean - and I'm sure you do.

I also remember thinking it was bloody hard to get it on it's centre (I'm English so not center) stand and I still haven't got the knack.

I'd recommend the 8v.

I had an '07. I have ridden a newer 8V Norge but it has been a while. I really didn't notice a big difference in the ergos between the two myself in terms of seat to peg. (Many other personal observations, but not to your question.)

I went from a B11 to a Norge 8V. Didn't notice any difference in the riding position. I have the same problem with cramped knees, so I use a foam pad under my beaded seat cover and it releaves it just right. My plan is to have the seat recovered and made taller. Any suggestions on that?

I use footpegs from a Buell Ulysses. 1 1/4" lower. You Fo have to modify the sidestand.

I had a set of adjustable pegs on my Breva 1100 a couple of years, they just seemed so small for my size 12 foot. Had set of Goldwing 1800 pegs in a box that I got from a member here never tried them before. Put them on the Breva they work great. Happy rider.

I'll be sending my seat to Pat at www.astechseats.com to make it 1 1/2" taller, his reworking of padding, a new top that breathes, and a contour fix that stops me from sliding forward.

I put a set of Buell pegs on, lowered 1", I didn't think it would make a difference, but in the real world made quite a bit of a difference for the better.  I also use a beaded seat cover on longer rider, adds another 1/2 or more which is noticeable.

I think the egros as far as knee bend has not changed on any of the B1100/Norge incarnations.
