Some bummer news about Charley Cole at Zydeco Racing
« on: September 14, 2015, 11:44:08 AM »
I just received an email from Charley and his longtime girlfriend, Loretta:  unfortunately Charley is not physically capable of working on projects anymore.  It sounds like it has been a long and terrible summer for Charley and Loretta.  If no one knows Charley Cole, he was "the man" for guzzi racing transmissions and final drives, amongst other things.  Please keep a few moments open and say a prayer or keep them in your thoughts.
Thank you,
ncamother aka Nathan Appel

His email: guzzi47@optonline.net
His website: zydecoracing.com  (also contains his phone number)

I feared that was the situation. Last year when I spoke with him he was recovering from some "mystery" ailment that had doctors baffled, sounds like he wasn't over it after all.

Thanks. Nathan.

I really feared something like this.  Not sure what he's fighting, but I am sending all the positive energy I have their way.

I also hope that the folks who have gear there can get it back soon.  Maybe someone in the area can offer to help Loretta get all that sorted?

It sounds like Loretta is sorting things to be sent back to the original owners. My unfinished transmission is being sent back in a week or two.  It sounds like a daunting task, if anyone is in their neighborhood I'm sure they would appreciate the company/help.  They don't have any finished transmission or final drives, but they are liquidating their parts as soon as they get their inventory in order.

Charlie helped me out.  Perhaps I can return my good fortune with positive meditation.

We have taken up collections for people in the past.  You know, to help with medical bills, etc.  Is this one of those times?

Sad news, especially as it seems that the cause for his illness is unknown.

Charley did a gear swap in a rear drive and a transmission rebuild for me, and I think he has been a great service to the Guzzi community over the years.

It might be premature ask, but if he's not going to be doing this type of work anymore, maybe someone with some mechanical aptitude would want to acquire his specialized equipment and set up a shop.

Sorry to hear this.  Charley fixed my final drive back in 2008 after someone else didn't fix it correctly.  I hope he gets to feeling better.

Rich, I think Loretta is going to take inventory, then update their website's for sale category.  On his site, he notes he bought out Manfred Hechts Guzzi tools. It would be a great investment for a guzzi tech.  I really didn't pick Lorettas brain too much, she's in pain
