[Rough Edge racing]

  We ride these bikes on occasion for  rather than our newer lighter weight multi speed machines. Both are in original condition ,the Rollfast has the usual rust. The Schwinn is nearly mint condition and we found it thrown to the curb as junk....Still has the Schwinn brand name tires...
  They are slow and require some effort, built to last a lifetime...just the perfect bike for exercise...

       

       Head down I'm working hard pedaling up a slight grade.....I'm 6 foot, the 26 inch tire "adult" frame is small

Kinda wish I had my old Schwinn (same model as above).  As a kid I saved the money for a Bendix 2speed hub.  That was fun.

PS you don't have any playing cards clipped on with wood clothespins.  :)

I still have my first bicycle, which looks a lot like your Rollfast.  I don't ride it any more, but it's rideable.  I have great memories about that bike, as well as scars on both elbows from crashing with it.

 I still have my internal shift 5 speed Raleigh Sprint that I bought new in maybe 69 with my paper route money, I take it out every now and then, still has the Brooks leather saddle it came with. About the only thing I have from when I was a kid. It needs the left side bell crank for the shifter which I have been looking for for years so its a three speed for now.

 As a kid I had Schwinn's and Columbia with the "springer front ends. Always removed fenders and chain guard...Bobbers I suppose...Ride at top speed into the park while standing on the pedals ,pass through the swings and grab the chains to pull off the bike and let it go riderless until it fell over....

I scored a Schwinn "Stick Shift Fastback" some time back. Banana seat?... Ape hangers?... Sissy bar?... You bet.

It's one of my wife's minor shames that she brought it home and I displayed the temerity to ride it... in public!

Wait till she sees it strapped to the camper this year - takin' it on the road.

I used to have a racing green Raleigh Tourister with Sturmey Archer 3 speed and drums front and back. It got stolen while I went in for a slice of pizza...

Most interesting I had was a 1930s Schwinn track bicycle with wooden rims, almost the same as was raced in the 1936 Olymics in Germany [I actually met a guy who raced similar in the 36 Olympics, stopped his car and showed me in 1975? when we were riding the whole Blue Ridge Parkway!].

The only "vintage" now is a 1975 custom Reynolds 531 racing bicycle in pieces.  I made the frame (used to do that kind of thing).  I just need a crank, wheels, and a repaint.

They're fun.  If I set the 1975 up again I'll go retro-mod and use modern Campy.  Handled great at the time, I rode it up through 1994 complete with wool clothes, leather shoes with nail-on cleats, etc.
