98 EV Air Box Removal
« on: January 03, 2016, 03:31:19 PM »
My EV has developed a fuel leak from the left side injector.  It drips from the TPS and onto the floorboard.  I smelled gas the last couple of days, then when I started the bike (fuel pump running) the fuel comes out at good trickle.

So I assume it's the fuel line into the left injector.  I took off the gas tank and still can't see the line.  How does one remove the airbox to get at it?

Also, bike has manual fuel cock which I have left open.  Perhaps that has eroded the line?  And I never did replace the low fuel sensor.

Thanks for assistance.

Airbox is a real pain to get out. I loosen the throttle bodies from the bars top & bottom(2 screws ea). To take off injector mount it is easier to come in from opposite side w/1/4" extension.
For air box you must remove batt, rear tank crossbar, both L & R snorkel. They go to the inside of box. Then anything else in the way & hoses.

There are two additional hoses.  The top/center breather hose is easiest to remove by undoing its holding nut and leaving the fitting attached to the hose.

There is a bottom/side drain hose to ground.  You won't be able to lift the box with that fitting in place.

yep and once all the stuff is removed it's still is a bear to get out . but the fun really starts when you try to get the airbox back in.. in the end it does fit back in there after you string together the right expletives.

I can replace a clutch in an EV in about 8 hours. 7 hours is getting that damned airbox out and back in.

I just replaced all the hoses and fuel filter under the tank on my Bassa. That was a royal pain in butt. If you're going to do that-and it would make some sense as I'd expect all the other hoses are the same age-I'd recommend getting some large locking forceps (hemostat-like thing) and some large needle nose pliers with the bent tips.

Funny, when I saw the post title my thoughts were nearly exactly what Wayne said!

It kind of sucks but no need to feel sick. When I did a Jackal clutch I thought there was something wrong with me, especially putting the airbox back in!

I am quite tempted to go with a hacksaw and pod filters.

Then it would a be a worthy custom.

really, what is the point?
