Bike Exchange for NZ Trip NGC
« on: October 06, 2015, 10:30:27 AM »
My riding buddy Ross and I have booked a flight early February next year, 1 month duration and are exploring the options for transport.

A) Buy a couple of old beater bikes for $3-4k then flip them off at the end of trip

B) Rent a bike $100 per day (Vstrom) = $3,000

C) Borrow a bike in exchange for a bike in Canada (Vancouver BC)

The bikes we have to offer in exchange are a 98 EV and Triumph Tiger similar vintage.
We are not looking for anything new, just reliable but Ross has a thing for multi cylinder jap bikes
I have been looking at BMW K series bikes, I think they are under appreciated.

Any ideas?

Yes I've been watching there trying to get a feel for it, a good time to buy a bike right now but no place to store it. When it gets closer we may go that way.
TradeMe is an auction site and it's really hard to communicate with the seller e.g. ask if he can store the bike.

I figured guys coming to NA probably have the same problem and a bike exchange might be a viable option.

Are you flying in to Auckland this time, Roy?

I  shall check with some on my contacts over there about storage, and let you know. There's some interesting possibilities on trademe at the moment - that K75S in Hamilton, and the TRX in Palmerston North, for example.

Last year a mate hired an SV650 out of Christchurch, the discounted daily rate for 15 days was $NZ 75. I shall get the details for you, as a benchmark, if nothing else.

You could also check with the local Guzzi community on Facebook - that seems to be their most active communications device there.

The 1100 Sport is not rideable at present, so I'm reluctant to offer that up until it is and well sorted.

Roy, I sent you a PM (twice) but cannot find them anywhere (I included a copy for my outbox).  In fact I can't even find my outbox.

Can you send me a PM with an email address?
