threading a throttle cable question
« on: October 29, 2015, 11:46:51 AM »
Finally getting around to working on the T-3 again replacing the throttle cables. I have the 36mm round slides with the little metal elbow bent tube going through the cap on top of the carb. I cannot get the cable end to thread through the bend part of the the tube. What is the secret?

John , are you starting at the elbow end ? Try turning the elbow to thread it onto the cable .

Isn't the bent tube part of the cable assy? Need to install cable end after the tube I think.

Best,
Peter

I got the cables through MG after sending them pictures of the set up. The did not come with the elbows on and when I ask MG about it I was told the end would thread through the old one. Besides the elbows do not want to detach from the plastic carb top cover.

Yeah, sorry. I just looked at MG's site and they portray it like you describe. Cable end too big apparently. Does the cable end fit in your slide? Call MG?

Best,
Peter

If yu got T-3 cables the stock square end carb cables won't won't work. The carb ends are too big. I think what you need are Cal II or Cal III cables. They may not fit at the grip end since the CAL III has the dual to single cable grip. Someone will be along to with the for sure solution.

The cable ends are *always* tight through elbows, usually with a little lube and some mild swearing it'll push through. Sometimes I end up very slightly rounding off edges or reducing the diameter of the end with my Dremel.

Thanks all. Got it finally. I cleaned the tube out with alcohol on a pipe cleaner, then with a pipe cleaner brushed in a bit of 3 & 1 oil, still didn't do it. Then tried dipping the cable end in 'Royal Blue" car wash soap, Worked!  :thumb:
