V7 Classic vs Stone

Are the bikes mechanically the same and just cosmetic (seat, fender, paint) differences?

The differences are primarily cosmetic with the major difference being the wheels.  The cast wheels on the Stone use tubeless tires while the Classic requires inner tubes

The V7C (Classic) was built only with the 2TB motor. They generally have smaller plastic tanks (except 1 year only - 2012 in the US) and a few cosmetic differences.

The Stone/Special were built only with the 1TB motor. They all have the larger metal fuel tanks and as slightly longer maintenance interval. The latest iteration (V7II versions) also have ABS and traction control.


The basic frame and much of the 1TB and 2 TB motors were the same (except electronics/EFI) until the V7II variants which though similar electronically differ more from the earlier models in terms of the frame and certain related mechanicals.

Thanks, Kev.  I really like the two tone paint (white/red & black/yellow) of the 2013 V7 Classics, but think I look for a Stone/Special with steel tank and paint to suit.

I priced a center stand for my V7 Stone and nearly ordered it when I discovered that the Stone doesn't have Grab Rails at the rear fender. Without those, pulling the bike up onto a center stand
is a no-go.
Price of both left and right grab rails, over $300 for two chromed tubes with threads on their ends.

My V7S is now being parked on its side-stand and I spent the $300 bucks to get back from out east.

Without grab rails, securing bungees is done by running them under the seat and forward of the seats rubber rests.

Buy a motorcycle jack which will hold your bike upright in garage, you don't much need a centre stand out and about. Agree those grab rails are pricey you may find an aftermarket rear rack cheaper.

V7C last year in EU: 2011, last year in US: 2012. The US 2012 was the only year it had a metal tank.

I forget if the two tone paint was available on the V7C or not, or if it was first on the V7 Special (before the stripes which I think started in 2014). But maybe someone can clarify that if they remember better than me. Can maybe?

Grab rails were stock on the Stone and Special for 2013 and maybe 2014. I forget exactly when they were eliminated.

I have no grab rails and a centerstand. It goes on quite easily. But maybe I sometimes grab the bag racks. I don't think lack of rails would be that troublesome. (But I have a set available on the cheap if someone wanted).

Correct.  2013 Specials had the two-tone Red/White and Black/Yellow.  2014 had the 750S type paint with the stripes - Black/Orange and Silver/Black.

I think the chrome grab rails are ugly, especially with the solo saddle fitted. Getting the bike onto the center stand is really easy. It's a light and low bike. Just grab the top of the rear shock. Not much force is needed.

Should be a bunch of chrome grab rails out there. Most accessory luggage racks will use the same location of the stock grab rails.

Yes, my H&B racks were incompatible with the grab rails on my '13 Stone.  When I got my '16 Stone, which doesn't have grab rails, I transferred the H&B racks to the new bike and re-installed the hand rails on the '13 before I sold it.  I probably could have kept them because I doubt that the buyer cared about or would have even noticed if they were absent.  So it goes.
