What material are early Tonti footpegs made of ?
« on: December 16, 2015, 09:16:49 AM »
The foot-peg bracket ( '76 T-3 ) ; mounts with two bolts on each side ,  foot-pegs front , passenger pegs / muffler hanger rear .
Heated and bent mine to lower the pegs . Expected that I might need to paint them after , but they wire wheeled clean and shiny with no discoloration to the metal . The heat affected end shined up better than the back end ; never was any rust .
Seems any kind of plating would have been spoiled by the torch and wire wheel . Magnetic . Wonderful material .

Sounds like some form of stainless . Did you quench the hangers after heating ?

Did not want to make them brittle so set them outside in the cold .
