After the Eldo total
« on: December 19, 2020, 06:14:49 PM »
A while back I posted that I had gone down on my 2016 Moto Guzzi Eldorado. Well the insurance company totaled it and reimbursed me. Actually, a bit more than I paid for the bike. So, I bought two bikes with the proceeds. I am still waiting for the manual petcock to replace the electric on the EV (Christmas you know) and had to paint the inside of the tank as it was BAD and a few other nigglies were done. But it should be fine. The other bike that I bought was a 2014 Honda CB1100. I did a few things to that and am just waiting for the cafe' fairing. Will take that bike out tomorrow as the day that I bought the bike I took it back home (luckily I was only about a mile away) but the battery was history and the pole bolts were not fastened down enough. Talk about a bucking' bronc!, as the throttle would come on, then it would go off and then abruptly come back on. I managed to get it back to the front of the driveway and then push it home. Replaced the battery, put on a Battery tender pigtail, and put on a Delkevic mini 8" muffler and a Boosterplug. Next is the K&N filter which is on order. Needless to say, the motor purrs. I haven't had a 4 cylinder for quite a while, so it should be a great alternative to the EV which as we all know is a great V-Twin.

Cool, thanks for the pictures!  We'll want to see the fairing on that CB, too.

Never owned a 4-cylinder myself, so these should be good stablemates.

Be interesting to know, as you ride both and "bond" with one or both, whether you tend to grab one or the other by preference ....

My money is on the Honda as the Go-To.  6 years vs 22 years of Honda vs MG design refinement; 6 years vs 22 years of aging (eg, caliper seals); always-there "electric motor" power vs sweet-spot "twin thumper" power; etc.  A new set of Michelin Pilot Road tires on the Honda and ampm7 is going to forget his password to WildGuzzi.

I just rode the bike today to get used to it and to change the oil/filter. The motor has a lot of headroom as 4250rpm (redline is 8500) is 80mph in 5th gear at least according to the speedo. It revs up fast as my previous 4cyl's did. The brakes are let us just say, very grabby and take a little getting used to. Turn in is extremely quick, it could use a damper but I can't see any way of fitting one. Just something to get used to. Cornering is excellent as a light bike would be. Tires are Pilot Road 3's-plenty of tread. Gearbox and motor are extremely smooth and I did put a Delkevic mini 8" muffler to give the bike more of a throaty tone without being too loud and not sounding like a sewing machine. It doesn't have a lot of range so, that is where the Guzzi comes in with the bags etc. All in all, a very good bike...Check out some of the upgrades to the CB1100 for a CB750 look that there are for the bike. Kinda pricey but nice.

I think you have made a wise decision on your two picks. Here’s what I base my opinion on😉

Ncdan -- you brought back some great memories.  I put the Windjammer with lowers on my Honda CB750.  Lusted after but couldn't afford the top and side cases.  Went to Canada twice among other journeys.  But it's day rides only now for me.  Thanks for the picture.

I put 3 enjoyable seasons in riding my 2014 CB1100.  I weigh about 165#, and found the CB's ride much improved after swapping out the OEM shocks for a set of Ikons with lighter springs, and going with lighter fork springs.  Also installed some inexpensive adjustable foot pegs.  I traded the CB on a 2016 T120 Bonneville, but have  good memories of the Honda CB1100.  Matter of fact, I removed the Ikons prior to trading, and re-installed them on the T120, after discussing if it would or wouldn't work with Roger at Ikon USA.  Mine was a new leftover CB that I rode for over 11,000 miles.  The build quality seemed top notch.
Main ride:  2008 Guzzi 1200 Sport (sold July 2020)
2012 Griso 8v SE (sold Sept '15)
Reliable standby: 1991 BMW R100GS
2014 Honda CB1100 (Traded Nov 2019)
New:  2016 Triumph T120 (Traded Dec 2021)
New:  2021 Kawasaki W800

I’m super lucky to have found this one, 83 CB1000C, one owner with 4K.
Sorry for the thread drift, AMPM

Thanks for the replies guys. A matter of fact once upon a time I had a Thruxton. I put pods on it and the funny thing was when riding in the rain it would cough and cut out. A British bike doing that? It was a fun bike. I did a lot of mods to it but when I sold it, the guy that it picked up must have weighed 300+lbs and 6'3". I said to the bike, 'sorry little guy'...
