Android phone and WildGuzzi not playing together well
« on: January 04, 2016, 06:53:00 PM »
My phone- Samsung Galaxy 4S.  Good condition, up to date running Android version 5.0.1.

In the past few weeks I've had problems using it to get onto the WildGuzzi board.

I get to the big lavender screen with the Guzzi eagle, choose the "discussion" tab on the left side, then click "HERE" to enter the discussion board, and when it brings up the main screen where I can hit "General Discussion", it often (30-40% of the time) freezes as it is trying to leave that screen for the discussion board screen.

Every once in awhile, like just now(!), it froze at the "HERE" button.  The only thing to do is close that tab and open a fresh tab, hoping for the best.  I've even had problems with it immediately after doing a restart of the phone.

The phone gets restarted nearly daily.  I have no issues visiting any other websites or using any other phone functions.  Seems to be something with WildGuzzi.  (How ironic given this board is dedicated to Guzzi, a machine with its own quirks.  Now Guzzi affects my phone.)

I'm on my home computer right now.

Any useful ideas (other than a replacement phone) on what to do?  I think it uses the default Samsung browser (whatever that is).  Would using a different browser help?    I think Chrome is on the phone, but I don't think that's the default browser.  Suggestions?

Thanks.

Steve.

Try putting a different browser on the phone and see what happens.  Sometimes, droids can develop malware and other junk that pc's can get and that can cause browser problems.

If you put a new browser app on and that works fine, you'll know the problem.  If not, I have no other clues.

if you have some time to burn you could try starting a "chat" with your service provider (I have Verizon) my luck has been good with chat instead of a phone call where you sit on hold a lot of the time.
my home provider Century Link was also pretty easy to deal with over chat..but they have limmited hours, how dumb is that?
they might be able to peak behind the curtain and see what the blockage is about..

Cool, will try these.  If a browser swap doesn't help, I'll try Brad's idea of contacting Verizon (also my carrier).

Everything is just peachy on my computers (2 personal with Firefox, IE on my work computer).

For the Android of the following versions:

Jellybean
KitKat
Lollipop
Marshmallow

Instead of hitting WG's main page, point a bookmark or homescreen reference to the discussion forum.

In that way you will avoid the rendering issues.

If you do not want to do that, in settings for your browser, choose "Request Desktop Site" and then you'll be able to navigate much easier.

This works with Chrome, many Android included browser flavors and many others like CM.

BTW, the CM Browser is probably the fastest browser when it come to WG.

Bing, bang, boom.  Chrome seems to do the trick.  Will try the other ideas if problems persist.

Thanks!

I have a galaxy note 4 and saved the link to my home screen. Works great every time.

I see it's solved, good!

Just a note - my wife has a Samsung phone that I occasionally also use. It's been our experience that the Samsung-provided browser sucks big time. We're both long-time IT professionals (albeit one retired) and neither of us is easily fazed by software quirks. But that browser proved to be an unworkable PITA. My personal choice of replacement browsers is Firefox, with Chrome a close second.

Yes.  No Tapatalk for WG.  Luap was not happy with the control he had to give up.  Lots of opportunity for attacks from there.

I've been using Chrome and it's been flawless, save for having to zoom in to read things.

If you like, try CM, much faster than Chrome, compatible and easily configured. Easily set to read too, without zooming.  The way it uses tabs is fluid and also very fast. I find that Chrome is messy unless you login and then your world becomes their world.

I am become Chrome...

They have taken over. Chrome  does work though, looks like it is the defacto standard these days, even for PC users.

Used to be try IE if there were problems, now its Chrome. Can't argue with success and Alphabet or whatever they are has done it right.
