I've mentioned in a couple other threads that I've been messing with Guzzidiag and TunerPro in hopes of making my '07 CalVin run more to my liking. Well, I have changed things around quite a bit and made some good headway. First off...I replaced the stock 15RC ECU with a 15M from a 2002 Lemans. No real reason to do this,since my o2 sensor circuit had been turned off anyway but I had the ECU so I wanted to see what I could do. I completely erased the ignition table and rewrote it using a stepped scale starting at 10 degrees at idle and increasing to 32 degrees by 4000 rpm and staying there the rest of the way up to rev limit. I used the stock incremental RPM points for each step of the timing increase. It closely mimics an old points distributor with flyweights- increases with RPM only-no fancy stuff.
Then I installed a fuel table for a V11 Ti exhaust setup and modified it with a bit less fuel in a couple spots and a fair amount more in several others...mostly in the 2500-4000 rpm and 60%+ throttle opening areas. Several test rides later and a few tweaks to fueling it felt pretty good...but the weather was lousy and I only got a couple good rides in.
This weekend was nice! I rode a hundred miles after work Friday and another 70 today, and the CalVin is much improved. The dead-simple timing curve and the tweaked fuel map are MUCH better than the CalVin map,and also much better than a previous mail order remap I had done. This thing pulls HARD in the mid range at 1/4-1/2 throttle,just where most of my riding is done. Slow to first gear to make a sharp turn and crack the throttle slightly now and it is crisp and sweet as I grab gears and accelerate back to speed. It lunges eagerly ahead on gear changes now where in the past it grudgingly responded. Don't get me wrong-it was never "slow"but now it is impressive. The best part? Mileage
improved with less timing and more fuel. (and in cold weather!) I gained 4 mpg...from 43 to 47 mpg. That's checking two tanks and riding it with enthusiasm so I am quite pleased.
I plan to keep messing with it and will report more as things progress. I will also forward the map to those who have helped me out with this project.
