The Management of this Forum
« on: February 07, 2016, 08:19:47 PM »
A few days ago, I started a thread here about the power of social media. As an example, I used a dispute between a Canadian motovlogger with 406,000 subscribers and Ducati.

This thread attracted many hundreds of views and a good number of comments. One of the moderators of this forum, Oldbiker54, also known as Dusty, attacked the biker on the ground, among others, that he had an accident on a RipStick.

Last night, a manager of this site, in the middle of further discussion about YouTube and social media in this situation, deleted the entire thread. It just suddenly disappeared.

There was no explanation when the thread was deleted, nor has there been since.

As someone who has made a donation to this forum, I think that I am entitled to an explanation. Indeed, I think we all are. Why was that thread considered so threatening to this site that it had to be vaporized?

There is apparently discussion about a new Moto Guzzi forum. If what happened here is typical of how this forum operates, a new forum can't happen too soon.

I read the first post of that thread, whichever mod made the call to delete it I agree with them.  Ducati makes a fine motorcycle and is a small manufacturer.   Much like Moto Guzzi, I believe Ducati is an amazing company. Lets see the Desmo valve train you designed.

OK , I will explain what happened . First off , while most of us are grown men and not overly sensitive, the video that was posted was incredibly crude and I probably should have pulled it early on . Some of the members here even commented on the overuse of a certain word . Secondly , there were some inferences to us being a bunch of old men who are out of touch with modern society , basically a method used before by the OP as a way to insult us . Not cool . Thirdly , when you misrepresent comments made in private , well , that also isn't kosher . Lastly , the thread had become nothing but a shouting match , which usually leads to a deletion . Clear enough ?

Just spent a few minutes looking up the Ducati owner in question on the net during a few Superbowl commercials.

He is a self proclaimed "professional hater", describes himself as alcoholic, posts pictures of himself stunting the bike all over the internet, has nothing but bad things to say, and he's surprised no one is beating down the door trying to help him out?  Sounds like a slow learner also.....

well you're on firm ground Dusty, except that part of bunch of old men who are out of touch with modern society....well that might be a little bit accurate- not there's anything wrong with that.

 :boozing:

I just had to get that in before the thread is deleted.

Did you read the basic rules for posting here...?  Was there Guzzi content...?

2. Keep the content Guzzi related.  No room for Politics or Religion debates here.

No, it isn't clear enough.

There was a recent thread about what Moto Guzzi could do to improve its market share.

Whatever the answer is, it will never include support for this forum. Why? Because this forum is actually toxic in terms of new riders coming to Moto Guzzi bikes.

Think about that.

I am a relative new-comer myself. I joined this forum before I ever purchased a Moto Guzzi, hoping that I could learn about what I was thinking of wading into. I immediately felt welcomed and encouraged, and I still do. Apart from my own experience, there are many helpful people here, with years of experience. I think this is a good place, even for a young person thinking about his or her first Moto Guzzi (perhaps a V7!).

Rob , that is your opinion , and you are certainly entitled to it . But this forum grows at a pretty steady rate , and we welcome younger members . Just because you find fault with us , or specifically me , well , seems we are doing something right . I might suggest taking a quick read of the other posts on this thread .

As far as starting another forum , go for it  :thumb: Then you can run it as you see fit .

A donation to this forum is not required but always appreciated.  You seem to be implying that your donation entitles you to special consideration.  This is not so.  When a thread get out of line, the mods act.  Just the way it works. The  Mods are in charge. I think the majority of participants believe that they do a excellent  job.  As volunteers performing a very time consuming service they deserve our support.  Perhaps you would feel more comfortable or appreciated  elsewhere.  Just my humble opinion. :azn:

This is one of the better forums on the net.  Very few ads and the ones here load fast.  Most other forums are loaded up with display ads so bad they are basically un-usable.

Wildguzzi lets you edit your posts.  Handy for fixing typos.  Most other forums do not allow that.

Wildguzzi does not have any, or none that are obvious to me anyway, fake profiles of people who just post crap to put activity on the forum and are probably a teenager in India making 10 cents a post to make it look busier.

It isn't me. It's other, active members of this forum.

Rob , there have already been a couple of spin offs from WG , and anyone willing to do the work is more than welcome to go for it  :thumb: In fact , many of our members here participate in those other forums , but most remain here also . No one is forcing you to stay , but you came here asking questions , and we did a good job of answering most of them , even welcomed you . The decision to stay or go is your's , and actually I hope you stay . However , airing dirty laundry and constantly complaining is not going to work .

Ciao,

So how do gun threads fit those rules? Which I enjoy, just saying the rules aren't always enforced. Which I'm fine with.

Rob , I am way to cool to worry about being embarrassed , heck , I go out of my way to poke fun at myself .

Here is the deal , you aren't happy with WG , even though many of us went out of our way to help you. This is somewhat baffling , it would seem you joined to point out all of the many flaws that we have , which is interesting , if not welcome . So , why bother ? Once again , there is always room for another MG forum that operates by their own rules . However , we have our's , and they will be enforced .
This is the end of this discussion , if you have a problem , please feel free to contact Luap .
