Referencing the above, I've read in CycleWorld articles by Kevin Cameron about CG and higher (to a degree) makes the Moto GP bikes quicker to change direction.  I'll look around and see if I still have that issue.

Interesting discussion.

Don't think anyone is saying the Norge isn't a fantastic ST, just that.like all modern big engined STs, it is heavy compared to the bike the OP cited.

For its intended purpose, its great. For an around town bike, something the Op was using as a comparison, not so much. You can ride a Norge around the city but that isn't where you'll likely get the big grin.

Why in the world would you want to ride a Guzzi around town, that's what a Honda is for.

I ride my Guzzies everywhere.  I don't own a Honda.  Ha ha ha

My Norge doesn't bother me around local stuff.  It's the same as my RoadKing around town for the most part.

Thanks to everyone for the replies...some very interesting and informative topics.

Regarding riding in the city, that would be not be where I would mainly ride. I like getting out of the city and mainly riding the back roads. But I would also be doing some highway riding when needed. So if the Norge is stable on the highway and also nimble enough in the twisities, then it may just fit the bill.

Adding the fact that I would like the storage capacity/security of hard saddlebags, a fairing/windscreen to reduce fatigue and the "maintenance free" shaft drive....and it has heated grips to boot.

No matter what you do, a proper seat is essential. Get comfortably flat footed at stops without having to tip toe or rock side to side and the weight doesn't matter.

A good seat makes the bike. Now hurry and get one before you miss another day, they are all numbered.
