Bead seating on Borrani Cross Rim?
« on: February 12, 2016, 09:03:20 AM »
Howdy all,
Anyone have any tips on getting bead to seat on Borrani Cross rim? Shouldn't be any different than the other Borranis, right? Dunlop 404: 110/90/18 on front wheel...
Thanks in advance,

I've never mounted up that tire, but with Bridgestones, Continentals, Pirellis and Shinkos it's been no problem with liberal application of Ru-Glyde during mounting. How much pressure are you using? Sometimes you have to use a bit more than is "comfortable" to get the bead to seat.

I do sometimes have issues with getting tires to seat on the Guzzi cast rims. The "secret weapon" there seems to be Windex liberally applied and lots of pressure.

If you're doing this in a cold shop, try warming the tire somehow. I lay mine on the workbench closest the woodstove.

Only "tricks" I know are purpose made tire bead lube, patience, and have the tube's valve stem pushed in about half way before airing so the base of it doesn't prevent the bead getting to the rim in that area. Other than that, taking a break makes things sometimes magically cooperate.

I have tried many methods to seat a bead.  One day while at a friends house, we were "trying" to seat a bead.  We never succeed in the time I had left to play that day.  A few hours later, my friend called and told me that the tire was seated up.  I ask him what he did to get it to seat.  He told me he laid it outside in the sunshine and let the tire warm up.  I tried the warm tire trick later.  Worked perfectly.

I have mounted BT45's on both Record Cross and plain old Record rims, no difference as far as I can recall.
