Parts cleaner (Ngc)

So I've been looking for a drum mounted parts cleaner. Purchased one local for $50. It is pretty heavy duty, old and plastic construction. When I got home I did some research and found out that what I have is an aqueceous cleaner. It has a heating element for the solution, etc.

Question 1 - does anyone use and prefer aqueceous solutions? Seems like a hassle waiting for it to warm up, etc. on the days when I'm not going to be in the garage long

Question 2 - I like the tank and tub. If I bought an appropriate pump could I modify it for solvent usage? Mainly, is solvent safe to use on plastic?

Solvent based tanks also had a system to close the lid if there is a fire. (a piece melts on the lid support)
I assume a plastic tank will eventually fail if filled with solvent, but that is just a guess.

Yes, what he said. Plus spark protection and less flammable cleaner. The steel drum is nice cause it can be sealed away for transport, but it's considered hazardous waste, prolly can't be transported in plastic. I got mine from Dee Blast in Michigan. They make a version for Snap On. The link for the lid is made of solder, which melts and forces the lid closed. My version has an extra sand filter, to keep the fluid clean and lasting longer.

I'm no way an expert in this. I did some research (confusing on the solvent) to find a home solution for cleaning parts that I shouldn't have to call a HAZMAT team to dispose of. i was also on a space/price budget.

I ended up with a bench mount Harbor Freight plastic (not metal) washer and used Oil Eater for the cleaner. It is not as effective as flamable cleaners, but it works decently in my tank. Go to there web site and see if it can be heated.
