I love(d) to ride in the  Verde Valley.

The roads are good, the vistas wide and lots of historical places. Mix in a few good Mexican restaurants and steakhouses it's a variable wonderland.

I wish I could be at the NAR. Good luck on the bike purchase. I had to wait two years to get my EV.

No one, I repeat NO ONE, has ever said that, at least here on this board.

The myth stems from a debate over semantics and the classification of bikes in the market place which would never in a million years CALL a smallblock a "tour bike" for a good reason.

Just because you CAN tour on a V7 or a Wolf doesn't change that anymore than just because you CAN take a Cali 1400 to a track doesn't make it a Superbike.

again I like the idea...if it has two wheels and a motor you are headed in the right direction...that said...I really like the idea of slowing down...that bike will take you anywhere you want to go... a little bit at a time...refreshing thoughts.

1. I plan to be on pavement most of the time. Of paved roads, I like the "blue highways" better than eye - states. I do plan some adventures on dirt, however not hauling buns along some single track. I am old and have no such experience. All I want to do here is to be able to traverse decent dirt roads at speeds from 10 - 20 MPH to get in to a place for the sights, hiking, camping.
2. I want to put at least 10,000 miles per year on a bike. This takes me quickly to item 3. . .
3. Budget. I pondered a bike that I never fell in love with but that has a good reputation. Getting a handle on its life expectancy was hard but twice I found owners projecting 25 - 30K miles before anything major. Let's do some quick math:
MSRP: 4600
Tax :      460  (+) at 10%
OTD:   5060
C/M     20       $0.20 per mile assuming 25K miles, costs rounded down
Now add petrol, oil, tire kitty, brake kitty, battery kitty, chain and sprocket kitty, insurance, license, and the "WTF" kitty and some shop service and I project total financial involvement of approximately $0.40 / mile so that 10K miles = approximately $4,000 / year. In that my SS will be a tad less than $9,600 / year I would be left little for anything else.
Wolf. Owners think at least 40 - 50K miles life and at least one owner has in excess of 58,800 with no trouble. math:
MSRP: $3,000
Tax:          300
OTD:      $3,300
C / M:    8.2     $0.082 pe rmile assuming 40K miles, costs rounded down
It uses even less petrol than the bike above, tires are between 1/3 and 1/2 the price, all parts are available and cheap. and major service with valve adjustment and oil change is estimated about $130. I think this one will run for about $0.20 / mile so that 10K miles becomes $2,000. And should it run long enough, to I could ignore the purchase cost as replacement would not be a present issue and the incremental $ / M could approach 9 cents!
I KNOW! All this sounds too much accountancy. But recall that my income will be under ten thousand dollars per year. I must account for dollars now or any bike I may purchase is likely to become naught but lawn art.
And...honestly I will have more fun on a bike that I ride knowing that it is not taking me into the poor house.
And then there is this. I need not only a bike but also gear and a few accessories. Those mount up quickly.
And the Wolf comes with 2 years warranty. I am liking it.
And, as I owned a CB 100 so long ago, I even feel a tickle in my heart when I think of one.
I have Asperger's Syndrome and so have to think in such ways!
