Va Guzzisti,
First...correction, my email for the lunch at Gusippi's Saturday stated 12:30 AM for the meet time, mybad, should have read PM.
OK this is FYI, I just finished a session of The Motorcycle Insurance "shake, shuffle & uptown boog-a-loo".
Background, We'd been with Allstate for everything (house, cars, bikes) for MANY years. We (finally) shopped around to find that our loyalty to Allstate had lined us up for a royal screwing. For the house & cars we ended up with better coverage for MANY $$$$$ savings from Erie Insurance. When the bike insurance came due I (naturally) shopped that too. Progressive came in w/the best quote, so I signed up. A series of screw-ups followed, trying to deal through my agent until I finally managed to get directly in touch with a person at Progressive who knew something about motorcycles (had heard of Moto Guzzi & Piaggio). when the dust settled I paid within a few bux of the Allstate renewal....but I was committed for 2015.
So my renewal for Progressive (due March 3, 2016) comes in the mail. I read all the fine print & realized that they have all 3 bikes, 74 Eldorado (844.05 CCs), '98EV (1064 CCs), and the '09 Piaggio MP3-500 (493 CCs) listed as "500 CCs" also, I found typos? in the VIN numbers for the EV & the Eldo. I checked my papers from last year & found the same mistakes....I just hadn't checked closely enough after finally getting the policy issued. Would they have honored the policy had I needed it?????don't know.
I called my agent & told her of the flaws in the paperwork. A day later she called back to say that corrections were being made w/no changes to my premium, so I could use the forms I had to send in my check. The amount was $303.00 for 12 months & covered liability on the Eldo &EV with full coverage on the MP3. Having (I thought) a final cost for 2016, I took the Progressive paperwork & set about getting quotes.
1. Dairyland Insurance I couldn't get an apples to apples comparison because of all the "bells & whistles" that came with their policies, but they were at $325.00 for just the EV & MP3, claiming they had to issue a separate policy for the "antique" Eldo.
2. Geico quoted $402.60 apples to apples.
3. Allstate, (back w/my old agent) $$273.30, w/another discount for auto pay from my checking account bringing the total check I wrote for my 2016 coverage to an even $270.00.
Meanwhile an email dated 2/13 from Progressive showed up reminding me to renew my policy.........for $316.00. Followed by another this morning listing a cost of $355.00!! I called my agent & she explained that the $355.00 was the total w/out the discount for paying the whole year in advance. Of course they conveniently neglected to list that figure on this morning's email. She said my amount due, sending in a check for the year was $318.00. Apparently an additional $2.00 charge from last year's policy had materialized from somewhere. I told her that I'd resigned w/Allstate, & to please inform Progressive.
So now I await my new Allstate paperwork.....& you can bet I'll read it all..... carefully!
Hope we get a good turnout at the lunch this Saturday, ride safe.
Ron
