Super Alce Engine and Frame numbers...?
« on: February 27, 2016, 11:25:06 AM »

A friend here just told me that he has acquired a military version of the Super Alce of uncertain year.  I thought first that Greg Bender's site would have the engine numbers but I am not finding them.

Anyone here have a good source for the 500cc Super Alce..?

I have been all over the interwebs looking but no joy yet.

Engine = AV 92402
Frame = 28894

Thanks,
Rob

Contact Patrick Hayes. I'll pm his email. All Super Alce were the "military version" - they were never sold directly to the general public.

This excerpt from "80 Years of Moto Guzzi" might help identify the year:

It remained in production until 1957 with few modifications: a magneto with automatic advance was fitted in 1952 while a cylindrical silencer took place of the double Alce-type silencers in 1955.

Great, thanks Charlie, I'll send Patrick a note, perhaps he and Micah, the owner can chat.

I wondered if all the SA's were military from the bit of info I found on the net.

Thanks,
Rob

I'm in Arkansas but will be home Tuesday night.  I have a listing of some 28 SA's that I've traced in the US.  Maybe this is a new one?  The frame and engine numbers are all over the map.  These were managed by military moto pools.  Parts were swapped all over the place to keep the units running.  Once turned over to the public there were no standards as to how they were registered.  Year of production?  Year of import?  Year of first US registration?  WAG from the DMV clerk?  I have a complete website on SA stuff but I need to find another hosting source for it.  PM me directly with any questions.
