(Norge) Just Ordered California Scientific Windshield.
« on: March 24, 2016, 08:45:26 AM »
http://www.calsci.com/motorcycleinfo/Norgeprod.html

The Russell seat along with a 34" inseam (6' 2"), the stock windshield feels like a sport bike item on the 8V. Looking for all-day comfort (rain or shine), so ordered the XL.

Remember using a custom 'taller' windshield on the FJR and wished it had air vents, now I see California Scientific has done this, should help with backpressure and cooling. Maybe now I can use a 1/2 helmet on those really hot day's!

Nice! Please let us know how the XL performs.

Regarding half helmets, in my experience, they are always quieter, with less buffeting, than my modular helmets (including my Schuberth C3), at least on my Norge (regardless of which windshield I have installed). Not sure why.

I have a CalSci windscreen mounted on my BMW R1200RT and it is the BEST windscreen that I've ever ridden behind.  I don't know what sizes they offer for the Norge but I bought the extra wide version for the Beemer.
I read a lot of reviews by people who had bought different windscreens for the R1200RT and the CalSci received a lot of great reviews.  Enjoy!

I use their medium size. At full up position I have to look through the very top of it. Works great.

That's the size I have-med.
As for  Russell seat, if you plan on a lot of rain riding you'll be ahead with on of my seat covers.  Just sayin.............. ..

I'm two inches shorter (at 6 ft even), and the CalSci medium works well with my slightly high Russell (raised to open my knee angle). I've had CalSci shield for a couple bikes. My experience is that they can be slightly 'soft' plastic compared to many stock shields, so take care to always keep your cloth well-wetted when cleaning, and soak sticky bugs off with a soaking cloth laid on them for an hour or so. I maybe be preaching to the choir, but it's always worth a reminder

Thanks for the responses.

FYI: I'm 6' 2", but with the 'Russell' I  barely touch the ground when stopped. I asked them to build it for maximum comfort for the my old knees (I sit high up).  Regarding the windshield, here again I'm looking for maximum comfort and protection.

Will post some pic's with all the mods soon!  :boozing:

I am 5'10" with a 32" inseam. I prefer looking over the screen and usually set the height there.
I have not found the plastic to be soft. I generally use a spray cleaner or the cleaner that came with the screen. No scratching so far. Unless the bugs are really thick I do not bother with soaking the screen first. If I do I use a towel soaked in as hot a water as I can stand, drape it over the screen and let it sit for 5-10 minutes.

Looking at looking over the shield when in the 'down' position.

I just have to lower a bit from the highest position to look over it.

5'11", just look over the top in highest position.  That will be fine as I'm rebuilding my Norge seat and will add 1" to the height, firm it up quite a bit (it's way too soft for my liking), and alter the pitch just a bit (less forward lean).

I figure the screen will be perfect then.  As an aside, I placed a MRA wing on a CalSci for my Tiger 1050 just to see what happened, and it turned out great.  Took a bit to get the sweet spot but when I found it the results were very good.  I have two of the same CalSci screens and might try the same experiment just because I can!

Russell seat and XL CalSci screen on my 2009 Norge.  32 inch inseam, 6'0".  The screen works well, I can easily ride with shield up when screen is in highest position.  CalSci is great to work with as well, I had one of the funniest and most enjoyable phone conversations while ordering my screen.

I had a Skidmarx screen on my first Norge and a med. CalSci on my second Norge. I liked the Skidmarx better and would like another for my current Norge, but I'm not sure how to get one. Back in the day there was a U.S. Distributor. I think in California? Can't find him anymore, and Skidmarx hasn't replied to my message. Anyone know?

It does my heart good to see support - limited though it may be - for Guzzi, with folks like this.

Always makes me think that a "principal" in the company has a slightly different perspective motivating the product line... Like a 90 degree different perspective. :thumb:

I recall Borla wanting to borrow my bike for developing a Sport 1100 exhaust. Sure, I let 'em have it but couldn't help but wonder why they bothered.

All you non-vent people are going to wish you had it for two reasons.

1: Backpressure (more pressure will be placed on your arms, a big deal for long rides.)

2. Backpressure (wait till you start running that BIG shield in hot weather, all that engine heat will be sucked up @ U.)
