Ah, just forget it.  Buy a V7/V9.  There's your review.

Good press?.
Dodgy electrics , "wallow" handling blues mufflers.
The V7 is dead last.
They didn't care for the triumph either and everyone else is praising it???

While it was well written and generally informative and enjoyable to read, I'm left with the same two bones as with nearly every comparison that I have ever read in my entire life:

1. Comparison bikes begin the comparison in unequal states of preparedness.

Here we see things like incomplete or improper "set-up", bead batteries or almost deliverately, ill-adjusted controls. THis happens time and time again to at least one competitor in nearly every comparison.

I don't care if it comes down to dealers, loaners or "cold" acquisitions wherein the supplier does not know it's going to a comparison, if I'm gonna take on the task of comparing bikes I am going to take on the responsibility for a reasonable level of preparedness and equality as far as the state in which the bikes are presented.

2. The particular selections and usually lack of completeness thereof .

Normally it's the omissions which make me crazy but nearly as often it is the particularly chosen bikes in a "comparison" which leave me at best, disinterested.

Here's the point of that - I, Joe Snuffy, bike buyer am looking for a bike... a "retro" bike... These are not the 4 in contention.

OK, the Triumph and Guzzi are head-to-head for the most part but the Yamaha? Would this not be a Bolt? The Ducati is close but seems a version of the Monster is a better fit with the base bikes from Triumph/Guzzi.

Anyhow, that's both of my cents for now.

The good: "a genuine retro bike experience"; "the most characterful, authentic and charming bike."

The bad: "the most cumbersome and suffers from imprecise, nervy handling"; "was hard work at anything more than a sedate pace."

In the end: "The Guzzi is the one I would leave with"; "It's right that this edition is called the Special because that's how it feels."

No because the Bolt has not been designed with any of these bikes in mind. The Bolt is very clearly Yamaha take on a Harley Davidson 883. The xsr700 is Yamahas take on a Ducati Scrambler also considering other bikes from triumph and guzzi.

For what it's worth I like the Yamaha xsr heres a review which helps explain the difference between an xsr and mt07 which helps on considering whether the xsr is worth extra outlay over an mt07.

maybe its a european thing: custom and cafe are like onions and icecream. we dont compare or judge by the same standards although with the v9 Guzzi seem to be bluring the distinction
