1998 V11EV Exhaust System
« on: May 01, 2016, 08:27:34 PM »
Recently bought a '98 V11EV with horribly loud mufflers (they are un-baffled).
A member of this group sold me a beautiful pair of stock second hand ones for my bike.

On my bike the H pipe with the crossover tumor that blocked the oil drain was replaced with a plain H pipe.
This H pipe has a slight bend that points a bit upward at the tail end.
The stock mufflers mounted on this H pipe are still a bit low and too close to each other.

Seems to me that the correct H pipe exit end should point a bit higher up AND a bit out on each side to make the mufflers mount without any undue pressure to properly install the stern muffler mounting brackets.

QUESTIONS:

Does the original H pipe have the exit ends pointed upward and outward?

Is there a substitute H pipe without the tumor that blocks transmission drain that has the correct bends to properly install the stock mufflers?

Lots of tiny differences between 'plain' H-pipes -- straight and a couple different bends as well as long and short tail pieces.  A shop might be able to give yout the bends you need.  If not, sometimes cutting the xover and using a piece of pipe as a splice will allow you the movement you need to make it fit.  Before you go cutting up a perfectly good H-pipe though, see if someone has what you need and will swap.
