Good day for riding
« on: May 13, 2016, 12:13:55 AM »
It was sunny and got into the high 60s today.  I got bored with prepping my fairing and tank for paint, so I slapped a m/c on the Rodekyll and went for a ride.  As immersed in the trike as I've been I'd forgotten what a pleasure a nicely sorted, short-wheel-base Tonti can be.  I'm set up with a 100 on front and a 110 on back, pressure set maybe a couple pounds high, and it was tracking like a trolly.  It was a pleasing ride, except where I detected a little pogo-ing on the front end, suggesting that it's finally time to rebuild those forks.

On the way home I stopped by the store and tossed a case of cola in one sidebag and a case of root beer in the other.  My intention was to head for the barn and start my evening.  But a cluster of sportsters went by, someone hazed me about my bike being dirty, and it was on.  I spanked them out to the end of the road and then offered them a coke.  One said he didn't drink coke, so I opened the other side bag and offered him a root beer.  They were amazed.  Even with two cases (and a beer) on board my Guzzi Convert still outhandled the lot of them.

Engine idle was 26# and engine temp was ~150f after the run.  Trans temp was about the same.

killer of AK roads,

Now that was a superb ride report!  Got to love a nice day in big brawling ALASKA.  And spanking HDs.  Does not get any better. Make mine a root beer please.  Well done.

I swanned the hot rod Triumph here and there yesterday on our long, flat roads.  Corn is high in the fields.  Heat and humidity pretty intense, but bearable.

Up early, poodle walk before sun gets much higher.

Nothing superb about this report, just a half hour commute to work. Thinking that now that I'm used to it, I like the way the bike runs without the Power Commander. Then I realized it's 55F and overcast - the engine is loving the temp and moisture. Well, I'm still fine with the absence of the PCIII until further notice.
That's the combustion chamber of the turbo shaft. It is supposed to be on fire. You just don't usually see it but the case and fairing fell off.

Good on you.  It really is more about the rider than the bike.  I suspect you could ride circles around me if you were on a moped.

It was such fun that after I wrote my OP I went out and did it again just to ride behind my new LED headlight.  We're having another perfect day today.  I might do it again after I fiberglas my fairing.
