Driving Lamp for 2013 Norge- added bracket pic and wiring for aux battery

While the headlights on the Norge are very good, more light is better. I made up a bracket that mounts under the fairing nose and installed a Hawell LED 1200 Lumen multi-spot Amber light there. The light is about $19 and is very well made with a full metal housing, glass lens and watertight wiring connection.

The individual LED are focused so that each one is it's own spot light. As the distance from the light increases the spots bleed over one another but the beam is still very focused with sharp edges.

The light uses 18 watts at 12 volts or about 1.5 amps which isn't much of a drain. The LEDs do put out some heat though but the metal housing is finned on the back to keep it no more than warm. There is a slight gap between the top of the light and the bracket (aluminum 6061 T6) and the light itself is shock mounted to the bracket so there is nearly zero heat transfer.

This light is hooked to the aux battery and is lighted switch controlled. I can run this light independent of the ignition switch position with or without the engine running.

950 Lumens is really bright and even in the brightest sunlight is very easily seen and being amber, gets noticed. At night the focused spots that overlap each others is something to behold.

The load on the battery is slight and can run for hours off the aux battery without making a dent in the available charge remaining.

Yes, I checked for fender clearance. The light is mounted to a point where its forward enough to maximize the clearance.

Sorry, here is a picture of the bracket.  I used a piece of L channel 1/8" 1.5x1 (way overkill for the application but it was handy).

I drilled the side facing the rear of the light to allow for airflow.  There is a slight gap between the top of the light and bracket so air will flow over and down the back.

To attach it to the underside of the fairing I use 3m VHB Solar tape only, no drilling holes. I know, tape? I have used this item of 3Ms VHB for years and used it to hold solar tracking arrays on the top of DP motorhomes that withstood winds that bent the aluminum frames but the VHB held and in all temps from scorchers to freezing and torrential rains. It works.

When locating a light or bracket under the fairing nose, do yourself a favor and make sure you either drill a hole in the bracket to reach the screw holding the fairing to the frame (in the center) or move the bracket fore or aft of that location. I chose to mount it in front just slightly so that I do not have to remove the bracket if the fairing needs to come off. I use SAE connectors to connect the light to the power source.

I bought the light off of Amazon. Look up Kawell LED Amber light 1200 lumen.

The light doesn't seem to affect airflow to the engine and because the sides of the light are somewhat angled it looks like the air hitting the light on the edges would flow directly into the cylinder heads and the air scoops built into the fairing.

I'll take some pics at night from the rider views and from a distance head on to give you an idea of how well the light works.

I'm resurrecting an old thread since what I have to say is exactly on topic.

I am in the process of adding auxiliary lights to my 2008 Norge, and decided to create a printable template for a mounting bar similar to the one Norge Pilot created. I don't have a newer Norge to check it against, but it should be close enough to guide anyone. Template: http://people.delphiforums.com/ITSecurity/Norge/LightBarNorgev0-1.pdf

The lights in this case are about 4" wide, and both overall width and mount points should be adapted based on the type and size of lights chosen. Attached is a PDF of the design for the bar; I'll add some adjustments as well as photos of the installation as I proceed over the next day or two. The lights themselves are each 6 3-watt CREE LED with 30-degree (spot) focus. I'll start with fairly simple wiring (i.e., no dimmer or multi-toggle), but may add additional capabilities once I've decided I am happy with the overall design.
