Big shout out to Pete Roper, he said this fuel map was "much better" than the previous map

 Drawing: CM228306
Hardware: 38M3G3HW309
Omologation: E15
Software: 4533V796
Tester: 130550800
Date: 2015.10.15

My V7II Special had the "V795" version of the map built in July 2015, and it was crappy.  Poor cold idling, and stumbled a bit off idle until engine was hot.  Went to my dealer and through a somewhat painful process (for them) we got the "V796" version, the last and greatest MG map for the V7II, downloaded on my bike. Problems are all solved!!!   Runs like a champ!!

Just FYI.   And thanks Pete!

Haha  Yes, 96 is a lot better than 95, but try Beetle map and you'll see stars.

When was the 96 map introduced?

When was the 96 map introduced?

I've got notification from my dealer dated on 18.09.2015. Find it below.

I find it interesting in that bulletin that the dealer is encouraged to install the map prior to sale or at the first service.  Neither occurred in my case (two different dealers).

I also find it interesting the bulletin states the improvement is in the idle management.  This is true.  But the dealer said it was also the best map intended to be compatible with the arrow exhaust in the Stornello, and the bike is aftermarket exhaust ready now?

Open to the beetle map (what are the benefits?) but not while bike is under warranty.

I actually dropped my V7 on a parking lot because of the shitty map! It stalled and I just couldn't have strength to hold it. No big deal, just small scratch on exhaust, but in that moment I decided to flash the ECU (even though it was still one year in warranty). Benefits? Normal running bike without (almost) any problems! By "almost" I mean my downhill stalling issue, but that is still unresolved for some of V7 owners and it seems to be unrelated with map. You can start-and-ride, no stalling when cold or warm, solid idle and objectively "more power" because engine runs at it should.

I really wouldn't wait. You can always re-upload stock.

That's interesting, given every Stornello seems to have the 795 map loaded. At least that's been my experience when talking to Stornello owners.

I would always at least try a private fuel map over the factory versions.

Guzzi and others are obliged to obey emissions requirements of secret committees composed of unknown (and un-elected) bureaucrats and lawyers from Europe and California.  Based on my original, and very evil, factory map, no engineers were consulted on what an engine needs to actually run !!

I know alanp is using a Beetle map and my '04 Breva 750 is using one from Todd over at GuzziTech.

Don't worry about the warranty; the dealer won't know unless you tell them or they have someone who knows how to modify maps. Beetle does not change the map number, I do not know about Todd.

Geezer, my 03 Breva has always run like a Swiss watch with no stumbling, plenty flexible, will rev out like there is no tomorrow and I still get something over 270 miles on a tank of gas.

Just what is the new(er) map trying to fix?

I was wrong to refer to my '04 Breva 750 map as 'factory'.   :embarrassed:   I do not know from where the map came when I got the bike, as one of the Previous [three] Owners might have pooched up the fueling.

When I acquired the poor thing it got less than 40 mpg, it surged, would barely start, etc.  The new map cured all that.

Ditto. But put on your best Saturday night asbestos suit cos consideration of warranties here seems to raise cranial temperatures for some members.

I'll eventually go with a Beetle map but while the warranty still lives and breathes I'll hold onto it. For all sorts of flippant reasons including legalities and insurance compliance. Just stuff....

If the bike is still under warranty is it up to the dealer to check if latest map is installed at no cost to the owner?

Or am I supposed to pay for the labour costs involved to check current installed map plus time to install new map if required?

Any dealer worth his salt should check as a matter of course. Since there aren’t many worth their salt, especially here after Peter Effing Stevens took the importers reigns, I wish you good luck. Whether you have to pay? It’s their time, why not?

Unless Piaggio have introduced some new and even more bizarre and arcane system to PADS every time to plug the wretched POS in it will automatically advise you if there is an update available and ask you if you want to install it.

One of the problems I fear with a lot of workshops is that the people they have working in them know, and more importantly, understand less than nothing about the machines they are working on. There is a belief that somehow, simply by plugging in a scan tool and gurning at the screen of a laptop that all wrongs with any faulty machine will miraculously be fixed!

Unfortunately this isn't the case. The fact that it's called a 'Diagnostic' tool rather than a 'Magic Wand' would seem to me to be a bit of a giveaway but I suppose I'm a bit of a killjoy in that respect.

IF there is a detectable issue, (Quite often there isn't!) then the tool will alert you to that issue but it's still up to the idiot who is working on the machine to confirm and address the issues the tool informs you of.

This is one of the things that are often overlooked. Diagnosing a problem sometimes takes hours. Once you have a sound diagnosis fixing it may take very little time at all! Sorry, but you still have to pay for the diagnosis time because in the same way we don't have a magic wand neither do we have a crystal ball, second sight or a set of engineers tarot cards that allow us to look through metal, read the tiny minds of electrons or in any other way miraculously fathom the unfathomable!

In short, answer to Pete , there's not a problem that needs diagnosing. If there was I'd expect to pay for that work unless it was found to be related to a warranty claim.

In answer to Beetle, thanks and I agree. But going by answers on this thread/forum and myself never having owned a new bike before I wasn't sure. If it's a case of having the mechanic plug in to PADS and checking which version is installed it takes what, all of 5 minutes? I know one thing and that is I'm really fecking glad that Microsoft don't want to charge me for every "update". Or Honda (4 wheels) for it's recalls. Would be nice if it was the same for MG.

When I was a service agent if there was an update I just uploaded it. No charge to the customer, just the time, 15 minutes or whatever. This whole ridiculous BS carried on by some shops of charging for a 'Diagnostic plug in', usually at some absurd rate, shits me to tears. I mean if you went to a 'Mechanic' and on the bill there was an added fee for 'Use of spanners' you'd not unreasonably call BS! What makes a lap top and software any different? You amortise the cost over time and tooling is a tax deduction anyway.

I agree. I'd also think for the dealer these sorts of situations are factored into the retail cost of the bike. Kind of prepaid if you like.
