76 Le Mans on Ebay ...... its back
« on: June 29, 2017, 04:41:31 PM »
Failed to meet reserve at $10.5K, its back on Ebay for a second try, I optimistically thought the reserve would be $10K :thewife:

"We decided to leave it as stock as possible, repaint the sheet metal and wheels, Rebuild the brake system, carbs, adjust the valves, new tires (Avon AM 26), rubber mounts, battery,etc... Everything has been gone through ,but depending on the location of the buyer, it may need rejetting/ additional tuning."

I see a lot of wear and tear and rust patina on most all of the fasteners which begs the question the last time something was dismantled to have 'gone through everything'

With the carburetor crank tops installed on opposite sides of the bike  makes you wonder what else got screwed up...

IMHO....he should have taken the $10.5K....  ...but of course...there is always the unrealistic expectations against the reality of the  CMV (Current Market Value).  Good luck on his 2nd try!

He may end up taking the 10.5 anyway - he says in the new auction posting "I just removed the reserve price now that I know a fair price for this bike and I am setting the starting price less than the highest bid the last time I ran the auction."

With no reserve and a 10K start, he may not get any more active bidding - and it may go for just that (if at all).

As others have said, it doesn't look like it has been gone through as thoroughly as described. I'd describe it as a well-cared for but unrestored machine that has been mechanically freshened.

Hey, the owner's in Texas - he'll take what he can get if he doesn't know any better!

As for the Brits and the assignment of work, I would point to Flanders and Swann's The Gasman Cometh! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zyeMFSzPgGc
