On my old 72 Eldo, the bike will jump out of 5th gear at times. In the past I thought it was from extremely loose linkage & as long as I held the side of my foot up aginst the shifter all was fine. Well the linkage is no longer loose & on the way to town today she popped out of 5th again. When I inspected the trans all seamed good & installed a new shift return spring + seals/gaskets. So I was wondering if anyone could point me in the right direction

Also when mounting my new exhaust system (New Mistral mufflers with crossover to my new chrome headpipes) I seam to have an issue of the center stand not going all the way back up. 1St the foot deployement arm that comes off the center stand hits the exhaust before it can go fully up & if I heated that & bent it next the upper part of the center stand looks like it will hit the crossover pipe

You won't need to heat the "deployment ears" in order to bend them - simply slip a length of pipe up over them and bend them down.

If the crossover is like the original, simply loosen the clamps and rotate it so that the "bulge" in the center is just above horizontal. Then the central tube of the center stand won't hit it. If the cast side "J" side legs hit the crossover, then I don't have an answer. The original crossover had two divots bent into it to clear, but they really weren't necessary except for the V700/early Ambo "T" shaped 'stand with tubular legs.

Bent the deployment arm easily enough with some very thin pipe, might have a tiny crack at the front of that earr. The  J just barley touches the crossover on the R/H side but with a washer to shim the rubber bumper down a tiny bit or a new bumper it will be just fine.

Now what about kicking out of 5th when on the gas hard? I'm thinking for the time being to ride a bit easier then when winter hits pull the trans and have it gone through properly.

Good work on the stand. I found on McMaster a rubber bumper with a bolt moulded into it. Made the stop adjustable.

It sounds like what my BMW does in 3rd. Kick out of gear when pushed hard. Works fine unless your going up a steep hill or getting after it. The dogs sound like they are worn. Could be a fork, but more likely the dogs. Sorry

Another question on these old girls, how long might it take to "wear in" new clutch plates?
I went to a 4mm spline hub and new Guzzi clutch plates, I've had to adjust the arm on the back of the transmission twice now when I ran out of room on the perch handle adjuster.  Currently the clutch doesn't disengage the engine power, the arm has once again migrated towards the trans case and needs adjusted back towards the frame. I assume this is all due to new plates wearing in.

Should be about like a new bike and a 1st service.   The thickest plate I used was Barnets, took forever.

Actually the opposite should happen. As the plates wear, the arm at back of trans. moves outward, away from transmission, removing freeplay at handlebar lever. Sounds like plates are expanding/warping, or something??

Well last night I adjusted the arm again since the cable was slack and not disengageing the clutch. Now my clutch handle is stiff as hell and still not disengaging things. Time to bite the bullet and pop the trans out so I can figure out what went wrong, grrrrrr
Hopefully I can get this figured out today, parts ordered, and back together in time to make next Friday's departure time for the Kentucky rally and then to NC for a few days in the mountains. If not the CalVin will be up for the challenge

This is beginning to sound like deja vioux all over again. I remember a thread several months ago with similar symptoms. Clutch came apart and the friction material stacked up. Hope it's not.

I fitted a pair of LaFranconi slash backs to my Eldorado this summer, I found the fit to be less than ideal and find the cross over pipe sits very close to the rear wheel, when up on the center stand the cross over strikes the rear tire.

In order to get the muffler support brackets to meet the loop frame mounts I had to make some stainless steel adapter plates. I tried opening up the throat of the mufflers to push the mufflers forward to increase the cross over to tie clearance and get the muffler mounts closer to the frame holes, no luck.

The fit is OK but not great, maybe the La Franconi pipes and new cross over are just not that great of a reproduction, don't know as I don't have originals to compare to.

What head pipes did you use? Stainless ones "neck down" where the mufflers slip on, but o.e. style chrome ones do not. Mufflers can slide forward as far as you need them to on the chrome pipes, no "opening the throat" needed.

Well my throwout bearing was TRASHED! That brings up a big question that I think I know the answer to. Where is the throwout bearing located on the clutch body inner bearing.  When I removed the inner body the throwout bearing was on the inside closest to the front of the bike. Then there was a extra washer on the back side inbetween the inner and outter clutch outter body.

This falls into the I learn something new every day.... The header pipes on my Eldorado are stainless steel, your information explains the problem I have with the fit.

Thanks Charlie.

It should be a "sandwich" - inner body/needle bearing/outer body.

Thanks Charlie, much appreciated.
On the inner body looks like the rod spun inside it a bit, tried swiping one off the Ambo parts bike I noticed the bearing sizes are same size but the Ambo's inner body iss a bit diffrent. The part the bearing sits on is a bit thicker and tapered on the back side. I'm guessing I'm stuck running the Eldo's inner body since I can't get a replacement in time for my trip
