ALL 1400's are roller.

Thanks.  That's what I thought, but a buddy wasn't completely sure so I started wondering myself. I guess I should have paid more attention to all those 1400 posts from years back.

The 1400 was the first model to get the roller top end. In a way it could be argued that that was responsible for the flat tappet fiasco not being sorted two years earlier!

Thing was when they were gearing up for production of the 1400 they obviously had a problem with supply of the roller cambox and tappet assemblies. Put simply they didn't have enough for both the 1200's and the 1400's. So they kept pushing the flawed 1200's out the door with the Flattie top end knowing they were going to fail and anticipating the need to do a lot of rollerisations in the future they started putting half the kit into the bikes, not because it would save the tappets, but because it would save them money in terms of labour costs when the shit hit the fan.

Very, very shabby in my book. No, you could probably never prove it but if it walks like duck..........
