Clutch lever/cable help
« on: August 13, 2016, 06:00:51 AM »

Ok, so here you can see my 850T clutch lever and a new 850T clutch cable, problem being I have no way of attaching the 2. The little piece above is from Mgcycle, I thought it would solve this problem as I'd figure I'd put this in the little slot in the lever, run the cable through it, tighten the bolt and be on my way, but when it got here I found it's way too small for any of that to work. I feel like I missing the right part entirely here and there is absolutely no way the end of that cable finds any purchase of the lever itself, and in my instance I had a ruined perch starting out and the cable already out from the get go, so I have no original setup to reference.

Can anyone point me in the right direction?

It needs to have one like this:

The big barrel slides onto the T shaped nipple.

The 850-T used a different cable and special "barrel" end fitting. It looks like you have the correct cable but need the special "barrel". Maybe check with Harpers? Edit: I think this might be it:

Luthier: the cable you show won't work. Notice there's no slot in the lever for the cable.

You're sure? That barrel will slide and fit in there ok with the rest of the cord in the way?

Makes me curious with the whole "civilian T3 G5 Convert SP2 T5" even though I have an early model 850T, granted the cable "unique" to the 850T clearly hasn't worked out for me

Ok if this is it, how do I get this barrel on to the cable?

Never mind, found this, crisis averted

Phew! Sorry I didn't realise. Glad you found the slotted barrel. I had some like that on my Norton..

Thanks Charlie.

That arrangement allows the use of cheap bicycle cables available at Walmart/etc. on your moto!! Right up our alley as Guzzi folks!!!!!

I believe the 17094801 barrel part pictured above requires that the handle have a thru bore.  This is part of the original as supplied design.  It sucks bigtime because the slots in the above mentioned barrel cut into the soft aluminum handle, further impeding an already challenging clutch pull.  Mine had this set-up from original.  I would suggest finding another solution than the original design.  It lasted a couple years until I 'improved' it.

Remove the bolt from the barrel, carefully hacksaw a slot down through the threaded end. slip the cable in and replace the screw.  Stick t in your brake lever device and ride.
