850T Footrest Hanger

Not only were these bolts rusty but the nut on the backside was hitting the swing arm. 

I believe the bolt might be longer than stock as it's also being used for the muffler bracket. Normally the muffler would hang off the bracket back by the passenger pegs, from what I can tell.


I replaced the rusty bolts with stainless.


And on the side where it was hitting I used a thin nut. I believe I have the clearance now but if anyone has a picture of what it should look like I'd appreciate it. Thanks!

That all looks right.  As you said, the stock mufflers are supported further back, with no bracket on that bolt.  Factory full-width nut might hit the swing arm in full droop, but there's no indication that it's ever made contact on my 850T, and it's never been apart.  Maybe droop is limited by the shocks?  Looks like someone has moved the linkage rod for the rear brake down toward the shaft CL to make the rear brake more progressive, probably a good idea.

can't remember my old T but later Tonti frames used a thin nut on that bolt, just like you've done.

On my V7Sport I chamfered the edge of the nut there to get clearance.

My guess is you have non stock shocks that are a bit too long and allowing the swing arm to drop lower than what was normal and foul with the foot rest bolts. With the stock shocks none of my Sports 750S or S3 were an issue but the bolts and nuts would strike the swing arm if the shocks were longer.

This picture is the 750S with stock Koni shocks installed and the frame hung from above, swing arm / shocks fully extended. On the ground the swing arm is quite a bit further from the foot rest bolts.

I could have used a shallower standard nut but prefer to use the nylocks. The foot rest and the bolts need to be removed to install or remove the swing arm. Your 850T has the identical frame and swing arm as the V7 Sport / 750S.

Your rear brake linkage rod has been relocated to a hole closer to the shaft.  That would result in a longer "throw" at the pedal but better modulation of the brake, as well  as increasing available force (torque = force X distance) for the same amount of foot force.  The factory provided just a single hole.  How does it feel?

Ah, I did not know that was a mod. Yes, you have a bit of step on the rear brake. I guess I can move it to the top hole and see if there's a difference. Thanks for noticing that!
