Throttle control re assembly question on Le Mans III

Replacing the throttle cables on my 83 Le Mans III, with the factory control.

  With the right side control disassembled, I have a question about the one inch wide  plastic spacer that goes around the bar, and has a 1/3 inch tab sticking out from the circular spacer.

    What I need help on, is where to orient the " tab", as the spacer basically can spin 360 degrees around the bar. I think that it should orient in the gap between the starter button wiring, and the kill switch wiring, just not sure.

so has anybody here have any experience with the replacing the throttle cables on the Le Mans III control?

Actually, somebody who knows what they're talking about will be along any moment now, but I didn't want you to feel lonesome.
That's the combustion chamber of the turbo shaft. It is supposed to be on fire. You just don't usually see it but the case and fairing fell off.

That's what I thought too, a defective Moto Guzzi throttle cable.

Darn thing broke after just 34 years...sheesh :wink:

That's all too different from anything I've seen to give advice other than there might be something not stock about your stock setup.  The guzzi bars I've been intimate with (none have been clip-ons) have had a hole in the bar to fit a pin on the pod.  This pin-in-hole arrangement is what keeps the pod from spinning on the bar.  The only time I've seen 'sleeves' between a pod and bar has been when someone is trying to fit an overly large-holed pod to a skinny bar, or the pod has been stretched from over-pinching pinch bolts (like we sometimes see on handlebar clamps).

Maybe this will jog someone to correct me (folks here love it when I'm wrong), and that will give you the information you need.

I am fairly certain that this is factory. The control is held in place by an Allen set screw, that is situated between the two brass holder screws. The plastic sleeve part that I referenced, is small enough to fit into the cavity, where the starter button/ kill switch  wiring live.  My concern is that when I assemble the top and bottom covers, this plastic sleeve will have the tab in the wrong position. These throttle controls are a bit finicky to reassemble as it is. Need 3 hands and 18 fingers to make it all come together.

I think I remember that sleeve on a Cal 2, I think the tab fits in an opening but don't remember much else about it.

That sleeve is a genuine part and I remember it fitted to my LM2.
I can only think it's used to prevent some of the wiring shorting to earth via the handlebars or contacting other wiring, as some of the switch / wiring terminals have a couple of millimetres of bare wire showing.
I honestly can't remember how the tang is orientated but it should become obvious when putting the switch assembly back together if you use the tang to prevent any wiring coming into contact with either an earth or other wiring.

There is a triangular tab that fits in the rectangular hole that the throttle cables go into. It is held in place by a spring clip on the outside of the throttle body. I am not sure the purpose. Maybe to hold the cable barrels in place against the drum. I have had Tomasellis on my Cal II for the last 15 years.

Yep, I went to Thomaselli just cause the old throttle setup was so lame, besides being 130deg or so throw.

 I think a dry fit (without the throttle cables hooked up ) should reveal the correct orientation. I think that it's purpose is some type of separation from the two electrical components, kill switch and starter button.Thanks for the advice on this. I have been away from it for a due due to other priorities, but should get back to it as soon the cables come in.
