Front Brake light no show
« on: August 21, 2016, 07:54:39 AM »
Hi all, So the wife took off for work this morning on her 10 V7C and I noticed no brake light, so I called and had her check em out and she told me the rear works but not the front, so when she gets home tonight I will check it out but if I can ask for some idea of what to look for that would be great and thanks in advance for any help.

Its a micro switch w/allen holding it. May have to loosen & readjust or replace. Simple test for power.

There's another reason to avoid the small blocks -- they put the brake lights in front!

Seriously though, the two tiny wires that connect to the switch can also get soft and fall off.  If that's the case they will need replacing.  They are special little things -- hard to find.  I have a few hundred if you end up needing them.

Sometimes the spring on the microswitch get clogged up with gunk. I've successfully de-clogged the switch on the V7 Special with a WD40 bath. it took a while for the WD40 to dry out fully & the switch to become reliable again. Treated the switch in Alice Springs, but before we got to Port Augusta 2,500km later, it was working fine & the new switch I had sent there went into the spare parts cache. Still OK some 11,000km later. If you are at home, and not on the road far from any parts source, it would probably be better to replace the switch. If you then manage to fix the old one, then you have a spare for emergencies.

Maybe some contact cleaner would work better?

Did you check the connections for voltage and ground?  Did you check for continuity (ohms) between the posts with the switch on/off?

Just a update, I have a switch coming, they are cheap. I decided to try what malik tried by soaking the part in wd40 rust remover(its was what I had) overnight, then I cleaned it with contact cleaner and let it sit and dry overnight and lo and behold it works just fine. It will be a spare
