Sorry for your loss Hank.  I see you're in Piedmont just a few miles west of me.

Very sorry for your loss.
Could he have been diabetic? Perhaps un-diagnosed? Fainting spells (blackouts) may be a clue. Almost lost a good friend on more than one occasion from those symptoms. R3~

77 years old riding a Guzzi through a beautiful stretch of road ?  There are many, many worse ways to go...

Yes... when I go I want to die like my grandfather, in his sleep, behind the wheel, not screaming like the passengers in his car.

Yes he does a bit . Are you aware we have a camp out at the Talimena state park in Oct . We would love to have you attend , we can have a small memorial to Gilbert , maybe you can regale us with tales of his life .

My dad passed while taking an afternoon nap.  Told the step-mom that he was a little tired and was going to take a nap.  Mid afternoon.  Never woke up.  Peaceful, hopefully.  He could have passed away many other ways WWII, prejudice on the mainland, local beefs.
From the Deep Deep South out in left field.  There are no stupid questions.  There are however stupid people asking questions.  🤣, this includes me.  😉 Hawaii.
