Intank Fuel Filter And Hose issues. What Years Affected?

With the talk about failing fuel filters. I'm not clear on what year and model bikes are affected by the bad hose and filter.

I have a 2004 Cali EV Touring with 17,000 miles. Hey I bought it less than a year ago with 13,000 and I split my time between bikes or there would be more miles 

So is my bike affected by this problem?

What year did this problem start?

if you have an in tank fuel pump (you do) it could happen to you.. hopefully the PO addressed it and you have no worries.
the in tank pump came around 2001 or 02?

Yours must have been fixed or you wouldn't have gone that far, I would still keep some hose & clamps in your saddle bag just in case.

All V750's   04 or 05 on up
All Carc's    05 on up
There are exceptions but almost every model w/intank pumps have been screwed up somehow, either filters or lines.
3 new bikes, just out of crate and getting set up have left me on the side of the road within 5mi

2003 and up.  There "may" be a few EARLY '03's with an external pump.  Basically they started with the Hydros.

Ironically the Cali's with the hoses that turn to mush had all metal filters.  Go figure.

It seemed like it was much newer bikes that had this problem. Didn't understand it went back as far as my '04.

I'll check my bike shortly to see if I need to change the filter and or hose.

I hope this helps others that have had the same concern about what year this started!!

My Breva 750 was bought a year ago with 2k miles. Now has 6k with no problems so far. Can I assume a PO Addressed this issue or is it lying in wait to park me at the most in opportune moment?

Failed to mention it's an 04. There are indications the fuel tank has been repainted

2004 EV dead on the roadside.
Luckily I was carrying replacement hose and clamps.

I did this repair twice. Once by the light of a casino South of Shreveport, LA and once in my shop to replace improvised materials from the Shreveport incident. It is a frustrating job owing to the tight quarters and the "quick-connect" fuel line, but certainly do-able by an experienced hobbyist. Another reason to detest ethanol-laced fuels...

I cannot tell you if there is a rhyme or reason to it, or if Guzzi simply grabbed filters off the shelf. My '09 Stelvio has an all metal filter. I had occasion to get into the bike for something else and decided to change it out while I had the bike apart. I was surprised to discover it was already all metal. So, I have a spare on the garage wall.

Point is, evidently not all later model bikes are affected. Might be worth putting a dental mirror in there for a look, or a bore scope. Also, some might have a metal filter but not the proper submersible fuel injection line. Don't know.

If it were my bike, I'd assume the worst and check it. <shrug> Just takes a few minutes at worst. Fixing stuff on the side of the road isn't my idea of fun. 
The issues that stop a Guzzi dead are all pretty well known, and much easier to fix in the comfort of your shed than elsewhere.

Listen, if you have an '04 EV the issue will be the rubber hose, probably not the filter.  A bore scope will not reveal the true condition of the hose.  That's what turns to mush and pops off at one attachment point.  As Chuck says, put in the time and pull the tank and pump and be sure.  If I can do it, anyone can.

I had to do it on the shoulder of Route 95 outside Baltimore ('09 Calvin).  I WAS aware of the issue years earlier, and had the dealer do the "fix" during prep.  Only he replaced the stock hose with the wrong type! 

So do it on your terms in your space, or roll the dice.

I feel really lucky it happened close to home...she didn't want to, but she got me home before dying completely...filter was completely split open....this is an easy fix but wouldn't be much fun by the side of the road...
