$79 for 2 Brembo brake pads!?!
« on: September 19, 2016, 09:22:29 AM »
Got 2 quotes of $79 for 2 rear brake pads for my 1200 Sport. Seems expensive!

Another vote for EBC pads. HH all around (if available), if the rear aren't HH that's OK (unless you were taught to brake on a Harley!  ).

Rears are likely a FA181HH, the fronts would be a FA244HH.

On Amazon, the rears are less than $30 - https://www.amazon.com/EBC-Brakes-FA181HH-Disc-Brake/dp/B006BVG6MI/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1474298466&sr=8-1&keywords=fa181hh

The fronts are a bit more than $30 per rotor side, so a total of about $60-65 for both sets - https://www.amazon.com/EBC-Brakes-FA244HH-Sintered-Copper/dp/B0035TW1PA/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1474298532&sr=8-1&keywords=fa244hh

An alternative that I use is the Ferodo Platinum pads, which are a little more than $30 a set at AF1.

http://af1racing.com/store/Scripts/prodView.asp?idProduct=1098

I see they are now special order, but the price is about what it was when I bought my last set.

They are less aggressive, and easier on the disk. Good feel, perfect for street use, in my opinion. I read somewhere that the OEM Brembos are manufactured by Ferodo, but I don't know if that's so.

I gave up thinking I was racing on the street some time back!

I've used nothing but EBC HH pads on the Norge from the first replacement. I had to replace the front discs at about 90,000 miles, but not because of surface wear; the floater buttons had worn out and the disc ended up with too much free play for good braking.

If discs last 90,000 miles, I'm not going to complain too loudly. I did replace them with EBC discs, which were half the price of the OEM ones and seem to perform even better.

Used them on 5 totally different brands of bike and calipers: zero problems. You are installing them on the inside of the calipers, right?

I believe HH brake pads have Kevlar, not metal in them.  Metal is what wears out rotors prematurely.

According to the EBC catalog, their HH pads are made of sintered copper alloy.

EBC pads have worked nicely for me.  I installed first set at 1636 miles, since at the time there were reports of the OEM pads causing the rotors to warp.  Installed 2nd set on front at 62504 miles.  Rears at 23000 and 43000.
