Thinking of Selling the 2014 Stelvio NTX, Cali or Vintage trades...

I actually cannot believe that I am thinking of doing this... trading the Stelvio for and EV or Vintage.  I absolutely love this rig however, just wish it were a tad shorter...or I were a tad taller... lol   

I do miss my previous California Models.
 
Like many Baby-Boomers, I am getting older and I am a little short of leg, still I insist on riding a motorcycle that is too tall for me.  This 2014 NTX is my second Stelvio having owned an '09 until a couple of years ago.
 
The Stelvio suspension is excellent for our bumpy roads up here in the North East, power of course is intoxicating, riding position is nearly perfect, the ride itself is comfy with plenty of room to move around if needed.
 
I absolutely love this rig however, just wish it were a tad shorter...or I were a tad taller... lol   I purchased a second seat set to have the stock seat profile lowered by a very capable young lady here in Maine that did a great job bringing it down an inch, the original owner had a Matris shock installed, lowered the front stanchions to match, proper sag set and all that.
 
Even with the set up this way the NTX has always been a tip-toe experience in no speed maneuvering, backing out of the garage etc... 

I dropped it in the driveway yesterday.  Scratched the left side case, not a big ta-do, I'll repaint it but that was the most recent wake up call for me.
 
I thought of going to a V7 but I like the 1100 engines and Vintage models...

Welcoming any potential buyers that might to thinking of a Stelvio and have an EV or Vintage to trade and make up the difference in cash.  I have not yet advertised the Stelvio for sale, just reaching out to the Guzzi community to work out a trade for now...

The Stelvio has under 6000 miles on it.

That furry seat pad adds at least another 1/2" to your seat height.

No, maybe an infinitesimal 1/4" and then matted by the weight of the rider but not 1/2".  The seat has been lowered one full inch plus the lower shock.

Even though I would love to trade my vintage for a Stelvio I couldn't do it.
 
A the CalVin is the best bike I've ever owned
B a Stelvio would be a one way ticket to jail for me, damn they are a absolute blast to ride and super comfy!

In fact you had me so curious that I went out to measure the thickness of the Alaska Sheepskin.      Even with applying conservative pressure with the digital Vernier caliper the pad totals only about 0.125" so about an 1/8"...

Good to know though...

If I do not find a trade I may have the seat rebuilder lower the seat even more and insert the gel pad.

Thats sounds awfully subjective.  When you plop your ass on it, your weight is dispersed as wide as possible, thus depressing the sheep skin the least.  Not sure a caliper can come up with an equivalence?

Try sitting on it with and without, and have your wife use a laser level across the top of your head!

You're making a big mistake. You'll miss that suspension and motor.

Get thicker soles added onto your riding boots. Hell, I'm only a touch over 5'9" and I ride my 09 with the seat on the high setting in front and  low in back to level it and Heidenau K60's which are moderately tall and I'm on the balls of my feet, it's no big deal.

replace shock with griso/ norge shock? less ground clearance but you keep all other things You can lower it at front  a bit too.

I love my 2013...above 3 MPH.  Below that, I call her the "top heavy whore of Medina" (my town) and other things even worse.  I am 5'10" and have leaned it over with my wife aboard at an uphill/sidehill stop sign.  No fun, but worth it to me to keep this bike.  I just think more about my stops and the footing/footwear when riding it, and urge my lovely wife not to turn around to look at some antique store or even junk piled up on the curb (same appeal, in her book) when we are approaching a stop.  On the V7, not an issue.  The silver lining to my top heavy whore is that I got her with 3K miles and 3k dollars off new after her initial owner tipped her over in a parking lot and got spooked and sold her.  Keep trying the mods if you aren't committed to moving in a different direction!

Yeah, I suspect that I too was just spooked... I thought about this for a couple of days before posting this, pains me to think that I can't make this work for me.  I love the platform, had an '09 and never dropped that one, it was not even lowered as much as the '14. 

I am thinking now that I will lower the seat top just a tad more and just be more vigilant of the under 3mph maneuvering...  that fall just pissed me off.  I know fully well that my gravel driveway has what is known in skiing circles as a double fall line, it slopes in two different directions, my left foot just went out while turning around... boom.   I have never dropped the half ton Harley there...

Before lowering the seat any further and giving up leg room between the seat and pegs try adjusting the shock. There's a full inch of adjustability in the linkage. It would definitely mean shortening the side stand (I can help with that) but may get you where you want to be. Of course you would need to raise the forks in the trees as well. A half inch may be all you need. Of course taking this route may mean that you start dragging things in corners.  Food for thought anyway.

Ok, I will investigate the shock for lowering further, conversely though I am not cramped at all with the seat to peg distance and even if that does happen, lower or adjustable pegs are available as you know... 

The additional seat adjustment would only be another 1/2" or so... I may very well take a blast up to see you in either accurately bending the side stand or shortening and rewelding the foot back on.

Or, big lug sole boots as previously suggested...   

I have put about 3K miles on the NTX and I am really diggin' it so far, well except that pesky tip over...! 

The power delivery is visceral and I swear getting better as it gains miles... crazy friggin' Guzzis, love 'em...
