2016 Biketoberfest Daytona was Great!
« on: September 29, 2016, 08:01:08 AM »
My son and I'll be there. Wondering if other Guzzis are headed that way. I always enjoy Biketoberfest. Seems like I see custom and vintage bikes that don't come out at regular bike week. Better weather I guess

The Daytona area is due to get hit with a Cat 4 hurricane today, which is going to tear up most of the east coast.  They are now saying that this storm may loop around and hit Florida a 2nd time by mid next week.  The events at Biketoberfest may be limited..

Or.....canceled because of the storm.
From the Deep Deep South out in left field.  There are no stupid questions.  There are however stupid people asking questions.  🤣, this includes me.  😉 Hawaii.

So is "bike week" under way or did everybody get spooked by the weather procastinators?  Do you still have  electricity?

Los of ocean front damaged. Wondering how many hotels and restaurants are open. I for one will avoid hurricane damaged area as a tourist because I've seen the disruption that follows. Would not be a pleasant vacation.

We talked to someone at Barber who was headed to Daytona. They diverted when the hotel told them if they came down they'd be in a shelter. With the next hurricane lined up I don't think it's biking weather.

Had a great time. Weather could not have been better a few showers just cooled it off. The people and services of Florida did a fantastic job of putting most stuff up and running in record time. Even came back on the coast road with two minor detours. People working there were glad to have the tourist dollars. The guy I rented a house from in Ormond  was ecstatic that my son and I were planning to come down still. Best time I've had in years. We went on our KLRs in case the roads/gas situations were iffy but the Guzzi would have been fine. HDs had no problems either. Fewer vendors and people of course but main street and the venues were packed Friday and Saturday as always. Plenty of vacancies, was not worried in case the house wasn't available.
Enjoyed riding the new single cam Harley and new roadster sportster. Indian, Victory, Suzuki, and Yamaha  were available for testing also [rode the new ones of those last spring]. So saw some fun bands, drank a couple of beers, saw some wild crazy stuff, and ate some good food. What's better? Secret of life: pony in a side car. Old dude, maybe my age!!!, with a well worn Electra Glide hauling a pony stopped traffic and all activity everywhere he went as women and grizzled bikers lined up to pet his pony.
