Trick or Treat
« on: October 31, 2016, 07:00:06 PM »
Ours was this evening from 6 until 8pm.  Seems fewer and fewer kids in my neighborhood go out to beg for candy.  When I was 11-12 years old, this night was the best!  It was truly a pleasure when my neighbors from across the street showed up this evening with their daughter to cry 'Trick or Treat!'  Now it's time to blow out the pumpkin candles and put it up until next Halloween.

No kids left in our development -- we're all aging fast and the kids have fled for livelier climes. Don't even buy the box of candy anymore, preventing post-holiday sugar rush.

our nieghborhood is full of Muslims. They don't trick or treat. We always have candy ready but end up eating it ourselves.
So sad.
We had such a great time in small-town Arkansas way back in the 60s.

We live quite rural and there are no young kids within a couple of miles or so. All quite here. My grandkids live in Wichita and have a couple of nieces in Durham, NC. Both are going to indoor and/or parking lot "trunk trick or treating". All pretty much due to safety concerns. Anyone remember also asking for coins for UNISEF back in the 60s?

Plenty of breeders here. Emptied our basket twice. Neighbor put up a haunted house. Our little bichon loves Halloween. .. likes to dress in costume and kiss the kiddies.
Unmitigated risk aversion is the new Puritanism; complete with witch hunts funny outfits and humorless preachers thundering doom. The Deity is Safety; Satan is a Lawyer; but the object is the same: to suck the life out of life and tell you how to live it.

Nice turnout as usual... Groups of people/families from the neighborhood get together and go out.

People also drop off treats at the front door, ring the doorbell, and run away. It's called getting "booed". I think we got a bottle of wine the first year.

We put out candy for the kids and a cooler for the parents (this year it was Angry Orchard and Samuel Adams).

huge turn out at my place.  perhaps the biggest ever.  seems we've had some young families move in here. All races and most religions best I can guess.  (since it was bought up earlier)

They've all moved to Australia.
The number of kids here celebrating this 'American' tradition has grown hugely over the last 10-15 years.
Now it's almost expected that you particicpate.

So in recognition, all you americans can stop work at lunch time today and lounge around drinking & eating and generally getting messy for the running of the Melbourne Cup!
Cheers

We haven't had the first trick or treater since we moved out here to the country. I sorta miss it. I've heard of "Trunk or Treating"...may have to try that next year.

The beer is a nice touch ---

Halloween has become more recognised/celebrated in the UK over the last twenty years. Originally we had Mischief Night on the 4th November, the night before Guy Fawkes Night, when we remember Guy's attempt to blow up Parliament, and mourn his failure.
