interesting little Honda
« on: November 04, 2016, 07:34:14 AM »
Not sure if this was ever imported to the USA by Honda. The CBX 550 is an inline 4, with 16 valves, factory oil cooler, ventilated discs, 6 speed and the Honda Pro Link suspension. Neat machine.

I've never heard of that bike.  Was it ever imported to the USA?

It seems like everyone but Honda had an inline-4 550.  Honda had the 500 V4 Interceptor (hand grenade).

You forget the CB550F which replaced the CB500F.
And no, the CBX never made it to the US.

Does that bike have the disk/drum front brake? Weird idea for a bike built before retro was invented.

The cam chain tensioner can stick and needs to be cleaned at every service interval or can cause catatrophic damage. Was typical to the model.

Ask me how i know!

There may even have been a modified part ... memory fails me, this was back in ...88 or 89.

Other than that they are a great Bike.

Canadian bike. Speedo calibrated in metric also.
Essex Jct. VT is not far from the border so must have been brought across.

CBX 550 was a one-year-wonder for Honda,  only imported to Canada for 83, and not the US. Lasted more model years in europe.
Similar situation for the two year wonder CX650E sport bike with the lovely guzzi style 650 v-twin, albeit liquid cooled. Imported to Canada two years, but not to the US.

I believe the caliper grabs the disk (which kind of floats within the housing) from the inside, it's an interesting arangement to solve a problem, i forget which, that doesn't exist anymore.

Yes, it's a nice, of it's time, middleweight, if you find a nice one.

The bike offered for sale in the above link is that plain naked version without the fairing. It is not the version of the bike in the picture that is posted.
