Like the other scramblers (Ducati, Guzzi), they work on "dirt" roads, but not suited for trails.

Triumph Scramblers can be made to work in the dirt, but it takes some mods if you're looking to relive your desert sled ambitions. The engine/frame is pretty heavy, but weight loss where possible and quality suspension can make it manageable. Tires, too...

OTOH, it IS a great bike to have when you'd like to investigate a forest service road.

Fantastic add. That Trumpet is a lot lighter than many ADV bikes. With good tires like TKC 80 it would be a great ride on dirt roads.

If you mod them out, sure they can do it.  Can they keep up with a CRF 450 with equal riders? Uh not hardly, but having the perfect bike does not always equal the most amount of fun.  And Nick and Virgil are not your "typical" riders. I do enjoy the videos Triumph has made with these guys, for entertainment purposes only.  I've seen plenty of the behind the scenes videos of their rides, and I don't crash as well as they do. I crash way better (more spectacular) and then don't get back up nearly as fast (if at all).  But it's fun to dream!
The best part of riding a motorcycle is to tilt the horizon and to lift the front coming out of a corner and to drift the back end powering thru loose dirt and to catch a little air topping a hill and... yeah it's all good!

lumber roads, easy 2 track, maybe single track. All this would be at a very moderate speed as they just don't have the suspension. Next factor would be tires.

You guys need to remember that back in the 30's, 40's and 50's they used to enduro Indian and HD hardtails. I have an 06 Scram and could take it a lot of places but as stated, at moderate speeds so as to not overcome the suspension.

You can......but why? So many better choices. It would take one hell of a rider to get a scrambler out of the gullys in my neck of the woods.

The Triumph Scrambler has WAY too little travel in the suspension to be compared to real ADV bikes.

They are no more off road capable than a V7 Stone or Special.     Sure, they'll get a little better with the right tires, but, I'd call it more of an gravel, or well graded dry dirt road bike than an off dirt bike.

You guys need to remember that back in the 30's, 40's and 50's they used to enduro Indian and HD hardtails.

To make a Scrambler back in the 50s and 60s, you'd take the same Triumph or BSA or Norton or Sportster that you would ride on the street, maybe even with Craven panniers on it if you were touring ...

And you'd take off the lights and put Trials Universal tires on it, and change the countershaft sprocket from a 20-tooth to a 17 or 18, put high pipes on it (and every dealer sold them), and you'd go racing.   Not just in the "playing around" class, but hammering across the desert at 80 MPH going for a world-class trophy.

Standards are different now, and there's too many purpose-made off-road bikes for that to work any more, but iron men used to do it.

Have they posted the specs anywhere, like suspension travel and weight?

Shirley, you jest??  All these POS scramblers aren't any better than the 60's "scramblers" that we laughed at back in the day. Maybe worse. They're considerably heavier. <shrug>

Ducati at 385lbs and 80hp is the biggest bike I'd want to take offroad as in no roads. Dirt roads would be find for the other scramblers and ADV stuff.

Pffffft. I'd take any of my "street" bikes on dirt roads. BFD. A "scrambler" is supposed to have "off road" creds. Naa. They don't, any more than the 60s scramblers did. <shrug>
