So Phil says 'Let's meet for lunch'
« on: November 18, 2016, 05:36:14 PM »
'Let's meet in Haliburton for lunch' say's Phil. 'It's about equidistant and we're supposed to get 15cms of snow by Monday.'

354 miles later, I'm back home after a grand day thrashing along empty roads through rocky, lake infested forest. It's a hard life, but somebody has to make sure those roads are ridden.

The morning started with fog and frost - always a delightful combination - but eventually it burned off and warmed up a trifle. Good day and at 95.5 cents a litre, cheap entertainment.

Phil's Super T. We swapped bikes for a while and I found the Super Tenere powerful, smooth, comfortable, stable - everything the Eldorado isn't.  I really liked the Super T, but couldn't wait to get back on my baby.

Thanks or your sacrifice, Nick. We here in the south of the north depend on you to make sure those roads get ridden appropriately. Keep up the good work, we'll send reinforcements in the spring...can't let any good roads go to waste...

Sorry to have to tell you Shaun, but my toes are definitely not interesting, unless you have some rather odd predilections

Glad you got out on the Stevio to enjoy the fine weather. Great bike!

Yesterday was probably the last Indiana ride of the season. Cross winds gusting to 35 made me have a death grip on the bars  work at keeping any weight off the bars of the Aero Lario. Still windy and spitting snow today..

Wow, tell me about it.

It was our monthly Third Saturday Guzzi Lunch and we met in Bedford, VA at a nice Italian restaurant.

Eight of us, one with a 250-mile round trip.   Good food, good fellowship, and weird weather.   Sixty-five degrees and sun and light clouds going in.    We stepped out of the restaurant into 52-degree 30 MPH winds pushing us all over the highway on the way home.   I hate wind, I'd rather ride in rain sometimes ....

Just goin' fer a rip are ya bud?
Just goin' fer a rip?

I've done Devils 4 Mile a few times. I like that 'road'!
Especially enjoyed the looks on the 4-wheeler-mounted locals faces as I passed by on my fully faired Honda Interstate (though 500cc not 1000).

I sort of like riding in rain. Gusty x winds? Not particularly.

And for bonus points, Lingham Lake Rd plus the hydro 'road' over towards Cloyne. Maybe not today though; it's snowing a bit too hard

Well, probably my Guzzi fetish counts as a rather odd predilection, but that's about it.

And here's RonKom's much more detailed description of our outing ...

"Yesterday was quite a "dramatic" day weatherwise. I left home early, heading for Bedford the long way...via 501/122. It was a beautiful morning, clear blue sky, crisp temperatures. By the time I got to Bella Italia the COLD FRONT had moved in from the West, fast & hard. The cloud cover was so heavy & threatening that I pulled out & fitted the self contained plastic cover for the MP-3 leather seat.

The wind gusts were  hard enough that I put the scoot on it's stand AND left the front end locked.  There was a V-strom already parked and a classic Triumph pulled in as I was locking up the scoot. The  gorgeous Triumph T100SC rider was Allyn Chappell (Editor's Note - The 1964 T100SC was gorgeous.  Allyn is only average  ).

Inside we found Bob Corfield, the V-Strom rider,  already at the table. Bobs bike was packed w/luggage & camping gear, he said he'd been on a "ride about" in the local area for the past few days. Also doing a little local shopping, but in a cage, were Curtiss & Rhonda Estes. We were all settling in around the table when  "Iron-Butt-Buzzard Bob" Annandale walked in followed shortly by Lannis Selz and David Phillips. Bob was riding his BMW R1200GS (just turned over 100K miles), Lannis on his Stelvio and David on his SP. So we had five on 2 wheels, one on 3, and two on 4, with two Guzzis, & 1 Guzzi "cousin".

The food was excellent, those ordering subs were pleasantly surprised by the large side of freshly homemade potato chips.  The conversation was far ranging....but w/no politics! It was a pleasant relief.
After lunch we headed outside for a little tire kicking but found the  temp. had dropped enough that  we geared up quickly & headed our separate ways. Allyn & I rode South together on a road I can't remember the name of. It intersected w/ Rt 24, where we turned East. We rode on together until he turned off toward Lynchburg & I continued on to Concord & home.
All in all a great day. "

Apologies for the temporary disappearance of the images - I've been in the middle of server transfer. Back to normal now.
