Luggage rack
« on: April 29, 2014, 04:40:36 PM »
Hello everyone, just bought a unsold 2012 V7 Classic. Nice bike, but I need a luggage rack for starters. Does anyone know where I can get a rack at a reasonable price? Thanks in advance, Robert

Which rack, OEM, Stucchi, or HB?

Answer depends on that, but MPH, Harpers, MG cycles, Af1, Motomachines, etc.

Could be, I'm not real familiar with it (or the OEM).

Get the Hepco Becker rack and case.
The Stucci, though a stoutly built, and good looking rack, will require an unsightly adapter plate to mount a case.

See Kev M's list of vendors to get one.

I put the H & B top rack on my V7. My wife prefers the design of it to the OEM one because of the raised hoop and the thin braces, which she can grip if she wants to.

Eventually, I'll add a H & B top box with the little back rest. I wanted to get the Junior TC45, but it is now superseded by the TC55. I think the TC45 matches the style of the Junior 30 l panniers, which I have, better than the TC55, but  suspect I'll get the TC55 because I don't want to wait forever trying to find a Junior TC45 second hand.

Now, if someone is planning to upgrade to the TC55 and will have a surplus TC45.....drop me a note, please.

I'm really impressed with the Hepco & Becker Junior Panniers. Yes, they are expensive, but I'm pleased with them and glad I bit the bullet and got them.

Stephen, I'm in Canada, so this might not apply. I really wanted a TC45, and was able to score one, apparently 1 of 3 remaining at the distributor. Maybe you could ask around, see if anyone still has one available.

And now I see from another post that you're this side of the border. Try any of your local places that deals with Motovan. I got mine from Sirius Motorsports in Cambridge about a week ago.

Have been ready to grab a Hepco Becker rear rack for my V7ii, but prefer the design of this one: from LGC

Anyone have any experience with this company? This rack? I notice that it has a Stucchi logo on it.

I went with the H&B Junior 40 topbox. No photos cause it's ugly like all top boxes.

But it works, and it's very easy to fit to the H&B rack, enough that I can happily make the snap decision to fit it for the trip to work in the morning, and leave it off the rest of the time

(just realised what case? was a question to the OP, not asking for recommendations - ah well)

Thanks Rad! But for that price, I would just get the new, black version.

Expensive aside, this is a very nice set-up!!  I had H&P 30 liter hard bags on my '93 Triumph Trident 900 when I lived in Aachen, Germany, and they are very practical and work well!

Just my opinion:

When it comes to top box time go with Whitney.  J.C. Whitney.  The big oval, Givi knock off, with the stupid Maltese cross on the top.

Buy better hardware from the hardware store, mount the box, remove the stooopid sticker, and you are set.

It holds more than you should carry.

I've got a Lot of top boxes and racks here.  If I knew better what you're looking for I might be able to set you up reasonably.
