Diagnostic code--2016 Stelvio

I was just looking through the menu options on my 2016 Stelvio. I saw the "enter diagnostic code". What is that code and what's in there? Or how do I find what those code digits are?

EDIT: Disregard. I found it in the Service manual. I had to search "DIAGNOSIS" instead of "Diagnostic".

But since the "Service Code" is always "10695", what code is being reset when the "resetting the code" is done?

Or is that just for adding or changing keys?  Not very clear in the service manual, IMO

Hi, Don.

10695 gets you into the diagnostics -- kind of like a password.  Once in, you can review/reset dash codes and ECU codes, as well as reset the services indicator, etc.  Each Guzzi model has a different code to get in there.

There are two codes, the service code and the user code.  The latter can be anything, and is used to prevent activation of new ignition keys to the motorcycle.  You can reset this code at any time, but you need to the existing code to do so.  On a new bike, it is usually 00000.

You can also re-set the user code if you have two operating keys but don't know the current user code by using the 'Code Recovery' function.

Didn't realize this, Pete.  I just tried it on a Breva 1100 and it works.  Makes a bit of a security mockery if you have both keys.

Pete, I think the "code recovery" function may have been what I used when I replaced my defective dash board with a used unit from a Breva 1100 I purchased from a forum member.   It's been a while, so not sure.  Long and short of it ...... the B11 dash works on my 1200S.  Does it make sense that a CARC dash from another bike could be adapted to another CARC bike if the bike owner had two key for the bike?

Yes, and I did all that and was wondering why it kept on saying "incorrect code" at the diagnostic screen when I entered in a new code. Later, I read in the service manual that the diagnostic code was always "10695". That must mean it cannot be changed by the owner.

That made me wonder what the other code was used for. The Service manual doesn't even say, which makes the entire thing confusing.

Is the number I put in only for new keys, if I only have one key? Does that number have any other purpose on a 2016 Stelvio?

It would be nice if the manual mentioned what the code I put in does. It explains how to change it very clearly, but not a single word about what it does.

Thanks. So that code is for new keys only, such as when one key is lost and cannot be reset when there is only one key.

So either don't lose a key or if you do, remember the user code that was entered.

Do I now have all this correct?

It's a security code. If the antenna goes out or the chip is t recognised, (If the ignition is screwdrivered for instance.) the bike won't start and the dash will ask you to insert the 'User code'. If you can insert the code then the dash makes the assumption that you are the owner and the problem is an antenna malfunction or similar and will let the bike be started. If you or the robber can't insert the code it won't start rendering the vehicle immobile.

The Das will store up to six keys. It's worth getting a third so if one is lost and you forget your user code you can still do the 'Code recovery' thing.
