Any radio/stereo/audio gurus on board? MGX content.

Here's what I want.  My MGX is a great ride and I absolutely love it. But the stereo system being 50 watts is inadequate at speeds above 70.  I can still hear it, but I like tunes and want to really hear it.  So, having never done anything like this, common sense logic tells me to just install an amplifier and replace the speakers with ones that can handle it. I was thinking 500 watts, which would be 2 X 250 watt speakers.

Would I simply install this amplifier that connects speaker wires out of the stereo into the amp, then out of the amp to the new speakers? I'm ignorant when it comes to stereos.

Why don't you call Crutchfield? While they will not know specifics abut the equipment in the Guzzi, they should be able to provide some guidance. They have always seems knowledgeable to me and perhaps they will help. They might even end up with an amp and speaker sale to you.

The last time I was at the local HD dealership they had a glass display cabinet full of speakers , stereos and various electronic stuff. Maybe worth a call to one out your way.

Watts are pretty meaningless by themselves.  You also need to consider speaker load and speaker efficiency to get it right. 

After that the easiest step would be to drop in a 4 channel class d amp and see if you could bias the channels enough to get some good sound with just the stock speakers.  A quick search on Amazon and looks like the Rockford is used by the Harley guys. Note that it's 4 ohm only so if you are going to start with the factory speakers you are going to have to verify their load.

More money gets you new speakers.  Even more money gets you an amp with dsp.
