Judging by the book, colorful barely describes it!

I do envy that meeting. 'Course, I'd like to meet you as well.

One might say the Kirbster is colorful

Imagine that picture with one of the 2 flying Lancs in shot too

PS
With some luck (and cash) there might be a 3rd one airworthy sometime http://www.lincsaviation.co.uk/news/lancaster-nx611-return-to-flight/avro-lancaster-nx611-winter-201617--huge-news.htm

Hats off to the check pilots as the aircraft had only one set of controls!
Gulp.
I'll bet some of those single engine exercises didn't turn out well..

Yeah, they lost/wrecked a bunch of Mossi's to non combat ops, but it doesn't hold a candle to the Sopwith Camel as the average life expectancy for a pilot was about 2 weeks in WWI and allot of that was due to non combat ops!
:-)

I'd bet a fair few of those Mossi's were lost during low flying exercises too.

Interesting article about the folks who supplied the plywood for the originals.

This relates to the first one they built here but I think you will find it interesting.

Low level ops are just about the most dangerous thing you can do in a military aircraft especially at night.(although landing on the boat is right up there).

Although in the last forty odd years most low level night ops (mainly the fast jet ones) the pilot isn't actually flying, the aircraft is.

That's no comfort to the pilot as he will arrive at the scene of the crash at the same time as the autopilot.

Autopilots by in large are quite fearless.

Beat me to it. Absolutely..
I'm sure I'd *not* be comfortable..at all.. doing something like that.
