Sometimes the requirements they ask for do nothing more than keep an adoptable dog in a rescue or shelter longer...happened to us like four times.

I know.   I do understand that these dogs have been abused, and the shelter is doing everything they can to make sure that the dog doesn't get abused again ... but they've got to be reasonable about it .... or, like you say, an adoptable dog stays in the shelter.

Thanks.  He's quite a fellow.  The heartworm treatment starts soon and I've never had an animal go through it.  Hoping very much that the infestation is not too severe - it can be dangerous killing those worms.

I am sure you know that you have to keep the dog quite during the treatment. If it is an active dog it will take some patience but well worth it.
Good find. You can see by the  black "ticking" or streaking on the white coat that it is a mix. Full BCs do not have that kind of streaking. My first of 3 BCs  was a mix and lived to be a grand old dame just shy of her 18 birthday. My 2nd BC was a Blue Merle and my last one was a standard black and white. All rescued and all great. The Merle was an amazingly athletic dog by even by BC standards: he defied the laws of physics.

Yes, now our Birdie is very mellow.  We just started the antibiotics in preparation for the anti-heartworm injections in a month.  He's also getting over roundworms.  After the heartworm shots he's going to be a real risk for cardiac and other circulatory problems so he'll need to be resting all the time.  He's so mellow we're wondering how much is his temperament and how much is the heartworm.  Sweet as sugar and gentle with the kids. Lots of wagging and very warm, just not the energy level from a 2 year old BC you'd expect.

I cannot speak to how much the level of energy is lowered by heart worms you dog is a mix and maybe the mixed side it the mellow side. Also it takes time after being mistreated as much as your dog has been might take awhile to come into his own.
